I think I have a weird one too. I don't think I've ever had to add oil between changes. I put 3K to 4K miles per year on it.

Thanks for not throwing mud. As for the oil thing. I drive my car too much! I cruise. I take on the occasional nuisance next to me at the stop light. I give it a gentle thrashing from time to time. I try but it just wont eat any oil. I just did an oil change a couple of weeks ago. I just checked it and it's still on the high side of the stick. I know there is a certain amount that is normal. I don't have it in front of me. It's in the owners manual. So I realize it's normal. I work on jets. They go through oil. All machines eat a certain amount. I guess it boils down to what's normal and what's abnormal. You will be the judge. I drive about 50 miles per week.

Mine story is similar - my engine was rebuilt at 20k miles due to poor craftsmanship at the factory, and while in there it got new valve guides. My car uses about a quart every 500-1200 miles, depending on my driving. Seems the harder I drive, the more frequent I need to add oil.

Because my car's engine was rebuilt, I have it checked for compression and leakdown almost every year and it checks out fine, or so the numbers say. I had the major done last summer and the mechanic said it was running very strong and checked out 100%.

This is a very interesting topic for me, though, because I have heard stories with oil consumption all through the range so I would really like to hear more on the subject from owners.

    Hey Mitch,

I tried your suggestion... leaving it at the mid point rather than the full line. I am still consuming oil at the same rate. Due to engine break-in I have regular oil in the engine. Changing the oil this weekend and I will be switching to Redline synthetic 5W40 (recommended by Dave Helms). Give me a week to put on some miles and I will post results if she is burning less oil using synthetic.

Just checked mine yesterday, added 1 quart after ~ 1500 miles.

I put about 1,000 miles per year on mine and my mechanic told me it was half a quart low when he changed the oil this last go round and I recall him telling me the same last year. Mine is a 1998 F1 model with 12k miles.
