For years now I've noticed that the level reading on the dipstick is different from one side of the dipstick to the other. Not sure how this could be...even if it were inserted into the fluid at an extreme angle, the difference should be minimal. I seem to see a difference of about 1/8-1/4". AND, it always seems that the side with the markings is lower. Anyone else experience this?

    I have never noticed that.

But I wouldn't worry about it. FWIW I just ensure the oil level is around the midway point in normal checking. When changing oil I fill it to just a shade below the full mark. I don't add any unless it gets to the add mark. I have never had to add oil between changes (3000 miles).

My WAG is that it hits something on the way in or out and pushes a bit of oil up that side of the stick.

Or perhaps you are checking it under hard braking or acceleration?
