Is there a torque value for the drain plug on my 1980 308 and if so what is it? I did a search and went to the Owners Site with no luck.
    Thanks in advance.

When I did mine I used 24 ft/bls. Read that in an article that Carl Rose did on 328 oil changes. Would think a 308 would be the same. Used a new copper crush washer and no leaks, that was 1,200 miles ago.

24 ft/lbs is what I used on the 328...seemed to be the consensus

Whatever you do, don't use too much force. The steel plug can pull out the aluminum threads. I also know of one owner who split his oil pan by over tightening. Fortunately, it was not too big a job to get it off and have it welded. People tend to overtighten oil plugs, even dealers. One time I was changing the oil in my wife's Subaru after a dealer had done it before. I had trouble with the plug, so for grins I got out my torque wrench to measure how much force was used---120lbs! Fortunately, this is steel on steel.
