I just bought two UFI oil filters. I have been using Baldwin filters in the past. Each UFI filter came with two sizes of copper washers taped to the bottom of the box. Do these filters need these washers to get the seal on the center boss? I can't see how you can tighten both against the rubber outer seal and also against a copper inner washer.

Should I have been using one with the Baldwin filters?

AFAIK, no copper washer associated with the UFI or Baldwin oil filter installation itself. Most likely, the copper washers are for the oil drain plug, and were included by the Supplier as part of an "oil change kit" (and maybe different sizes provided for different models).

Surely the washers are for the drain plugs, I agree!
