This is for sure an overkill. Safety wire to keep filter from backing off. We did this when we were racing formula cars. Somethings never leave you. Image Unavailable, Please Login

I'm sure the clamp will loosen and fall before the filter become loose. Aircraft filters have a hole for safety wire directly on the filter.

If the filter is torqued to the proper specification when installed, it will never loosen and fall off. The clamp is overkill. The oil filters are very difficult to loosen at the next service when properly torqued at the last service.

I also had to air chiesel out a oil filter like Howie said and believe me the screwdriver trick doesn't work. It was almost a war to remove it. Tried many weapons before he surrender. This clamp and wire is totally useless.

when installing a new oilfilter and you overtight it then you have later a really big problem to loosen it again.
normaly it is ok to drill the filter until the gasket had contact, then you use "handpower" and then you use a tool to tighten it 1/4 more turn

but to unscrew the filter only with a screwdiver? - I doubt and never have done this

Clamp won't work loose, Everything fell off Formula cars. We checked every nut and bolt EVERY session! If you don't like it don't use it. Just out for info. It did work well on race cars, and I know people still using it.

I also clamp filter like first post, I did find that for some reason in 512BB filters do get loose in my car and I do not know why, but clamps keep things together nicely.
