Oil Flush?

    Possibly a silly question:

    I was watching autoweek a few weeks ago and in the garage tips section they said that an oil flush is a great thing to do every once is a while

    They then showed an engine block that has never had an oil flush and the accumulation of filthy oil and other deposits that had gummed up to a glue like substance covering the block, which lead to premature engine failure

    And they showed a 150k mileage car which has had a flush and regular maintenance and the block was very very clean... looked new actually

    Would the 360/430 benefit from this oil flush that was discussed?

    The 360 manual recomends that every time you change your oils use compressed air into the cooling lines. This also helps that all the oil acumulates in some places get out.
    Maybe this will help to keep the inside clean but a oil flush will be very helpfull too IMO.

    Hmm must be something to look into - The video showed a very unique machine that would be do the job...

    Not something every garage would have

    I'm pretty sure there is a product that you can use to flush out your old engine oil. It's basically a low viscosity oil that isn't suitable for long term running and it effectively circulates and cleans and when you drain it out it takes almost all the old crap out with it. I used to use it on motorcycle engines where maybe only a couple of litres were necessary but I think it would work out pretty expensive to be using it to flush out a 12 litre capacity engine.

    Waste of time and money. Modern oils have very effective detergents and modern motors put very few byproducts in the oil. Modern motors that are dirty inside are only as a result of ignoring proper oil change intervals, repeatedly for a long period. Flushing could potentially do more harm than good. Flushing products are not designed to lubricate while at the same time lubricants ARE designed to clean. Also oils are designed to retain smaller particles in suspension where they can either be caught by the oil filter or carried out when the oil is changed. If there is some type of build up in the motor the last thing you want to do is aggessively break it free to circulate within the motor. Leave sleeping dogs lie.

    All this has been very throughly thought out by the oil and engine manufacturers. Do not let some snake oil salesman convince you to fix something that isn't broken. Change your oil as per manufacturers recomendations it will last much longer than you have it and the interior of the motor will be clean the day we rebuild it.
