Interested in hearing what other F40 owners use for oil in their cars? I wonder if anyone uses synthetic oil? I know Agip 10W 40 is what is recommended...thanks

Not to confuse things, but I recall reading somewhere saying NOT to use synthetic engine oil for the F40. Perhaps it was in the owners book.

quite interesting. From what I have heard, synthetic oil tends to seep out of those "older" engines, such as the daytonas etc... would be nice to know. Currently, my car does not leak oil, using just regular oil.

In my Daytona I did not use a synthetic nor do I use it in my Dino, but with the heat in the Turbo's I believe synthetic is the only way to go in a F40.

I think the weight you use depends somewhat on how you drive it. I could be wrong but I believe we used a 20-50 or a 10-50, sorry bad memory!

Don't use Mobil 1. It isn't good at all. A friends company does oil break down tests for the OEM's. M1 was the WORST. Castrol Syntec and Royal Purple were the best.

    Ryan,

I understand that Mobil 1 recently changed its formula and now other synthetics are perhaps superior. I have heard this rumor but I have seen no proof, what actual documents do you have to support your statement?

We are considering switching to Royal Purple (The rumor I heard said Castrol came in after Royal Purple), but rather than just take the word of a friend of a friend I would like to see supportive documentation.

    Thanks

On Amsoil's website, they have charts and comparative tests. They list Mobil1 Extended Performance just a hair below their own in terms of performance, and far beyond many other oils that were tested.

I have a hard time believing Mobil1 "is the worst". Especially without some documentation.

SWEPCO 306. I've been using this in 4cams, Daytonas, GTOs, F40s, 512TRs, 308s, etc. for years. So did the local Ferrari dealership. Highly recommended.

Sorry but I have no paperwork. This is what I was told and I have heard about M1 problems before many times. I myself have had issues with M1. Why take a chance with something that had issues when there are better choices IE Castrol Syntec and Royal Purple.
