Curious to know if any of you have experienced this before

Noticed that my oil pressure is around 30lbs when I start, but when I revved up the car it moves to about 70. This was the case during my entire drive.

It never went to zero but would fluctuate between 30-80 depending on throttle.

Pretty normal. Once it is warm even 30 may be high at idle.

Surprised I just noticed that. After my CEL experience, I am not at ease

Seems normal. Workshop manual had a specific section on normal pressures.

Even to fluctuate from throttle pressure?

I have the clipping from the wsm for easy reference. Hope you can read the iPhone capture and it answers your question.

Thanks, but just to be clear my issue is pressing the throttle raises the pressure and when i release the pressure drop.

Just not something I expected, and weird that i never noticed it before.

If (a big if) my understanding of the system is correct, the main driver for the increase in oil pressure is the increase in rpm. I would presume that there is also a small change in pressure on any throttle movement due to the change in intake air pressure through the blow-by/disareator. An expert can chime in and tell me I'm way off base for an excellent learning opportunity!

Hi,at low revs the oil pump revs will be low so it will show low pressure. As the revs increase so the pumps revs will increase with the subsequent rise in oil pressure. hope this explains it. All the best elt.

So you guys were right. I spoke to a specialists mechanic in Toronto. They said its normal

I was just surprised that I never noticed this before.

If someone could just confirm on their car I would really appreciate it.

The pressure is absolutely normal... There is no question. The interesting part is if it truly varies on something other than rpm and heat, and why... But not to resolve a problem.

Every car I've ever owned with an oil pressure gauge does this... On a cold start pressure will be high even at idle, once warm pressure will vary with engine RPM...

    Perfectly normal!

Yes. Absolutely normal. On every car.

Most daily driver cars no longer, or never did, have an oil pressure gauge. So it might seem odd to look at it fluctuating up and down if you're not used to seeing it.

Press the throttle, revs increase, impellers spin faster, pressure increases. Lift, they slow down, pressure decreases. Sit at idle, pressure drops and stays at low level.

I would only be worried if you hit the throttle and the pressure didn't increase. That might be a sign that you've let your oil level get alarmingly low. If that happens, stop. Check your oil.

very normal, if you drive in high altitude you will see that the pressure wil be higher too
    nothing to worry about
