    Guys

The oil pressure sender is a weird thread size (M18 x 1.5) which sort of forces you into a car specific part.
Has anyone fitted an M18 to 1/8 adaptor and then tried a generic VDO 10 bar sender (which hopefully lasts longer)?

That happens all the time. You just have to find the right adapter, or make one. Got a lathe?

Not car specific, one of the standard VDO senders. The following M18 senders can be used:
    VDO 360-081-030-122C, 0-10 Bar, M18 x 1.5, 10-184 Ohm, Warning: 0.75 Bar, Nuts & Spades like Ferrari OEM
    VDO 360-081-030-132C, 0-10 Bar, M18 x 1.5, 10-184 Ohm, Warning: 0.50 Bar, Knurled Nuts

    You can also go for:
    VDO 360-025, 0-150 psi, 1/8-27 NPTF, 10-180 Ohm, Warning: 11.4 psi (0.79 Bar)
    With VDO adapter EQ-842206, 1/8 NPT female to M18 x 1.5 male

You can google/Ebay for one of the above senders but you won't save much (perhaps ~$30) as they are reasonably priced from the Ferrari parts suppliers.
