just recently purchased a 98 f355 and was wondering at stop lights should the oil pressure drop to the first notch on the oil pressure gauge. At load and rpms above 4500 pressure goes a little past half way aprox 76lbs. Previoulsy a testarossa owner and car did basically the same thing, but very knew to the 355. also bought the 355 over the 348 due to the car being closer in speed to the testarossa, but has anybody converted the power steering to unassisted and is it a hard to due conversion. Have not driven the car much since my purchase and don't know if i'll get use to the power steering, other then that love the car

    Normal.

Also on warm days, while at idle, not uncommon for red oil pressure light to flicker. Same info stated in owners manual. If one did not come with the car sugggest you buy one - very useful.

Re: P/S - It's variable input... so at highway speeds it is almost off. Don't know why you want to remove unless you want more hp for the track..

You may also want to check the condition of the connections on the oil pressure sending unit. If I'm not mistaken, it should be just under the oil filter. Make sure the connection is clean, connected properly, and that the wires are in good condition (nothing busted or frayed). It could also be that the sending unit is bad or going bad.

    One other thing.

I'm not totally sure what the opperating pressure should be on a 355, but for my 348 the manual says it should be between 78 - 92 p.s.i. when the engine is at 6,000 rpm & the oil temperature is 212 deg.F. Pressure below 64 p.s.i. is normal when the engine is warm and idling.

I once thought that the oil pressure sensor on my car was busted, and I replaced it. Waste of money. It worked for a couple of weeks, then it started again like before - showing very low pressure and never below 4 bars even at full load. I knew the oil pressure was OK, because my mechanic checked it with an external manometer and it was 6 bars @ 6000 rpm, like the factory says.

I thought the wires were shorting out somewhere, but to my surprise I realised that tapping gently on the oil pressure dial brought it suddenly back to life! It seems that sometimes the circuit board soldering in the dashboard can oxidise or come loose, and the indicator does not receive the correct signal.

For safety, the F355 reverts to manual steering if the power steering goes out. So you could disable the power steering belt, I suppose, and perhaps even remove the power steering pump to save weight, if you really wanted.

So I'd say that it is a pretty easy conversion.
