has anyone replaced the oil pump bearings during a service? can the shaft and bearing assembly be removed from the front of the engine or does the entire oil pump need to be removed? thanks

    The drive shaft bearings?

Better have them in your hand first. Last time I needed them they came from some other hemisphere. Front off and lower pan off.

Are these prone to failure? Something to worry about?

No. They are not very big but don't go bad often. If you saw the pump drive system you would be more careful to warm up the oil though and stick to a 5-40 like they were designed for.

Good to hear. Unless I'm in a hurry, I always let the car warm up until the oil gauge needle starts to move, and then keep it below 4000rpm until hot.
