So after seeing @boba fett post about his oil cap, I went on a search and found one. The person i got it from said it was from a 458, but dealer said it'll work on an F430.

So, it does 'work', dipstick is the right length and it seats properly on the neck.

    However!

The notches on the 458 I'm guessing are 90d from the F430, the cavallino sits sideways on the reservoir.

I tried like heck to loosen the stem to see if I could rotate it but can't break it loose (tried both)

Does anyone know if this is supposed to come loose? Tried PB Breaker, next I guess I'd try heat but don't want to damage anything.

    Any insight is greatly appreciated!

If anyone has a 458 and would be so kind as to take a picture of the notch layout, greatly appreciated, will definitely help! Thank you

    This is the F430

If it fits the neck, then just heat the dip stick and turn it 90 degree

Guessing the "spin" on the 458 is reversed? Can you get a flare wrench that fits the bottom part and try a breaker bar while cap is wrapped in towel and held with vise? Try and heat up that part with a torch or would it melt the seals?

Thank you, I was looking for the orientation in the car.

You gave me an idea though, went to the engine diagrams, same layout in the 458 as the F430

So looks like the cavallino was mounted 90d rotated. Ugh

Any suggestions how to rotate it?

    Thanks all

Thanks gents, the more I'm at it, appears the top cavallino was not applied properly, it is otherwise same as the F430 one

Considering heat to the top to remove and reapply the cavallino circle/badge

I would remove washer first and see what you are dealing with

    Washer?

If you mean the stem/stalk, that was my plan, but it is really stubborn

Will go next level, just don't want to damage it

Didn't get you at first, think I see what you're saying now, just heat the bas of the stalk and rotate it

K, guess I gotta get this thing loose

Oh, that's loose and just sits there to make a seal, I removed it, nothing there

    The plot thickens....

Ok, so with some leverage, I got it apart, looks like they used maximum threadlocker on it.

I have to rotate the base inside the cap 90d

    It's not moving

I assume it's screwed down on top, then the cavallino cap applied

Tried 250d heat, I know it prob gets hotter than that during normal driving, anyway that didn't loosen the cavallino at all, trying not to damage it

    Any suggestions appreciated!

The Cavallino on top appears to be pressed in. Not sure it can be removed without damaging the cap though. Have you tried spinning the Cavallino on top, maybe by tapping a part of the horse right at the raised part? The bottom part looks like it’s meant to be in the current position.

    Hi Allen

    Thanks for the response.

I believe you are correct in that the bottom part is where it's intended to be based on the original cap and pic at the top of this thread.

I did try and move the cavallino as you describe, no luck. I think it was just built incorrectly.

I am assuming maybe they assemble the base, then press the cavallino on with some double sided tape, was hoping I could lift it, but not looking likely.

    Rats

    John

Maybe, no issue getting it hot, I'm just not sure if my assumption is correct. I really have no idea how the cavallino gets on there and if it's cemented on, its probably not coming off.

The one I have is the same. It doesn't sit right but I was unable to to adjust it so I left it alone. Still look's better than the stock one.

I figured that would be the case, but I had to throw my thoughts out there.

Okay John, after much thought, and because I want to help you solve this, I figured out a solution.

Remove the oil reservoir, take it to a local machine shop and have them remove the top of the reservoir and replace it at a 90 degree rotation, weld it back up, repowdercoat and reinstall the reservoir. Problem solved.

    :D

    LOL

Theoretically, I could make notches on the other side, but I'm not.
