OK, I admit it, I just got my 05 F430 with 5500 miles on the clock and figured I'd check the oil after I got it home. I did it first thing in the morning and started it up and let it run for a few minutes before I check it. It was low and barely on the stick. I added 1.5 quarts, took it around the block and when I came back it was smoking from my appearant over filling! I didn't wait long enough for the engine oil to warm up on my initial oil check. I sucked the 1.5 quarts back out with my vac pump and rechecked with the engine OIL WARM and it now checked fine. Here's my problem, when I start the car first thing in the morning after it sits overnight it puts out a big poof of smoke out of the exhaust, then it's fine the rest of the day. It's done it for the last 3 mornings so I figure there is something in the crankcase ventilation system that has some residual oil from my overfilling. Can anyone give me a hint what I need to remove and clean?????? Other than that it runs GREAT! This must have happen to someone else for sure? Thanks for any help, Mr. Stupid!!!!

When I did that to my 360 i left it on for a long time after removing the excess oil and then drove it for a few miles and it went away and havent had the problem ever since

The oil is now in your intake ... probably should have it cleaned.

I had a similar experience thinking oil was way low, but wasn't going to add any without knowing for sure. Didn't want to fire up the engine with too low an oil level, but the gang told me it reads low until fully warmed up, so fired up the engine. It's a quart low, rather than 2+ as I thought, so no worries. Will top it off 1/4-qt at a time to make sure it doesn't go over.

Read you can clean your intake of most of the oil by removing the butterflies and sticking your hands in there. You should also spray the MAF sensors with brake cleaner (without touching them), as an oily film affects their accuracy. Good luck. Doubt you did any damage, but might also have to replace the spark plugs. Keep us posted.

Many thanks for the replies! It's been about a week and everyday the oil smoke first thing in the morning has gotten less and less. This morning when I fired her up....NO SMOKE!!!! I did stop by a great Mercedes shop and ask the owner what he thought about spraying chemicals into the intake system and he said if he did anything it would be carb cleaner, but said anything you do might cause the check engine light to come on. He said not to worry about it since it was synthetic oil, just drive it and it would go away on its own. Looks like he might have been correct and it never did have any signs of running bad, so I've learned from my experience, only check the oil when it is completely up to operating temp. My Mercedes shop owner also said that synthetic oil expands alot when its hot compared to conventional oil. Regards, Bob
