What is the trick to get this thing back on?

I'm trying to dry fit it so I can get a "feel" for it before I get in there with gaskets that have sealant on them (unless you convince me to go dry --> http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/553993-oil-sump-cover-gasket-dry-w-sealer.html).

    I got it in once.
No clue what happened... just kinda happened.
Every time I get in there, it seems like it will never pass over the oil pickup tube.
... and I don't want to damage the pickup tube cause, I'm sure, that is a nightmare.

    What's the secret sauce, guys?!

    Thanks all.

The cover would not have come off if that wasn't out.

    But I got it going.
Required me to find my balls and get 'er done.

Getting around that oil pickup pipe is a bit unnerving but it happens.

From what I remember it is "tilted" in place. Not straight in. I think the front part of it goes in a bit earlier and the rear part follows just behind. Sorry, no pics to show and intermittent memory.

I took the studs out but left the dip tube in place, the sump pan will drop down just enough to clean off the old joint. You then have to tease the joint into place and replace the studs on a dry joint. Worked on my mondial 3.2 ok. Taking the dip tube out is fine but i understand it is a pig to get it back in again.

The secret is to tilt it much further than you think it should be tilted.
