Gents. Is anyone aware of an improved 355 oil tank (Ferrari pt.# 178345)? Years ago mine leaked and was repaired. It's now leaking again. Before replacing it (was $600 now $1700 and getting rare) I thought I'd check with you guys - is there is a better solution? Thanks.

Where is it leaking from? welds or the fitting?
Ebay is full of 300-600 used ones, I would shoot for one of those.
I've never had a leak on my 99

Car is at dealer. Don't know where tank leak is coming from. Didn't ask as I'm going to replace - not repair - it. Skeptical of used - got one. Car is also '99 near end of production. I'm hoping there is a better quality Hill Engineering type alternative. Thanks for reply.

Its a complicated piece of engineering, I doubt anyone could make an aftermarket any better or any cheaper, better to find the cause of the leaks and fix it permanently. The challenge tank and cooler is different to the road version which could be an option, from memory its even cheaper new than the road spec. I have both here, but used, still deciding which I will use on my project car.

Thanks PAUL500 for your insights. Going to install a new tank (part $1705 labor $1700) and repair the old one as you suggest. Will post when leak cause is ascertained. Stress crack? Rust perforation? Metal fatigue? BTW Is the challenge tank superior? Larger capacity? Better built?

The guys in the challenge section would be able to tell you the actual differences, I just noticed the visual ones when they were side by side, each has its own unique oil lines and cooler,

It is the same size. The inlets and outlets are a little different to accommodate an additional oil cooler on the left side of the engine.

I didn't realise the 99 cars ran twin coolers, just had a look on the parts diagram and the 96 challenge cars only ran a single cooler but both use the same tank so there must be something about it that was modified from the road car version regardless.

I was having a move around of parts today, so put the two side by side so you can see the differences. Key thing seems to be some kind of thermostat housing on the one and not the other.
