I recently had to replace an oil filter on the TR because it blew the gasket and dumped oil. The shop added 13qts of 20W-50 Castrol Syntec.

I took the car out for a good 40 minute low-keyed drive this evening in 25 degree weather and noticed that the oil temp needle never went past 140 degrees. Oil pressure hovered at 85psi the whole time.

Is my oil temp sensor loose? Or is the gauge broken?...but I did notice that when I turned the engine off, the needle dropped all the way to the left.

    Thanks.

I think your gauge is ok. 25 degree weather is fairly cool to get the oil to warm much past that(140). You might try blocking the airflow from the cooler on cold days I bet the temp guage will show a higher reading. Regards, Vern

PS. I think I would be more concerned about why you blew the gasket on the filter.

    Vern,
I am told that the gasket on these UFIs are a weakpoint. I compared what they pulled off with one from the new filter and the replacement was definitely beefier.
    Thanks.

Hey Doc, just a quick question for you, are you careful to let the engine warm up fairly well before gettin' into the load pedal. Ferraris produce a lot of oil presure so you need to careful, not that you aren't just wondering about that blown gasket. I never had that problem with the UFI filter. Regards, Vern

    Vern,
Yes, I am very careful about letting the engine warm up before I put it to task. That's why I was perplexed that the oil temp never pushed past 140. I think you may be right on about the ambient temperature keeping it low: my coolant temp needle was only at the one quarter mark instead of at half on warmer days and more spirited drives.
    Thanks.
