I hope this is an easy one. At a steady 80mph my GT4 water temperature is a steady 90 degrees. But oil temp is closer to 120 degrees which seems on the high side given we're only doing 4000rpm. When pottering around town the oil temp is 100 degrees. Would a new oil cooler solve the problem?

    Thanks

I would find out if your temp gauge is accurate before you go and buy a new oil cooler. Then I would have the original one cleaned out.Try thes things first before heading for the deep end

    Hi
If 120 is vertical on the gauge, then it would be fine (but at high end) IMO.
According to what I read in the Oil threads, the type and viscosity of oil you use will reflect in oil temperature. Ditto if water temp is high, oil temp will also be high. Specifically, your water temp can be higher than what the meter shows due to air pockets. In essence the oil is used to help cool the engine, hence the oil cooler. Also check for blockages in the air flow to the cooler. Over time debris (leaves?) can collect inside the oil cooler housing.

On my car the water temp will drop fairly quickly when speed increases (e.g. after sitting in traffic) but the oil tmep takes longer to drop.

    Regards,
    Gerrit

I started reading unusually high oil temps (78 308 GTS), (water stayed normal) similar to what you are seeing. I replaced the Veglia oil temp sender ($14) and it started reading more normally (95 to 100 C). Remember, the car is plain old, and stuff fails....for so cheap a part, I would just replace it, rather than spend a bunch of diagnostic time/work. If it doesn't fix it, THEN go through the drill.

Thanks, guys. I'll replace the oil pressure and temperature senders first, then see where I stand.

As well as mentioned above make sure that the lever on the air conveyor is in the right position - it's marked "summer" and "winter"
