Good morning Vik, yeah I think Sam took that photo of my car at the ROE. Couldn't make the run last weekend, it was my 4 year olds b-day. Are you coming for the winery run this Sunday at Ferrari of LI?-MICHAEL
... was kidding as well But I won't drive a NATO 355! (prefer verde mugello) Your rare 355, would be a great reference car in the "colour thread": http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12419 There we can compare different blue colours against pozzi. Feel free. forza cinque
Martin is dead on... Go get a white, green, purple, yellow or other non-red - strip and repaint... When I restored the older vintage f-cars - my assumption is you have a proper/sterile paint shop and will be taking the car down to bear metal/fiberglass/plastic - including engine compartment, etc. (I haven't done this myself - but have had it done - and it costs 20+K to do it right (and I had the car painted the same color - which oddly was blue) - now with you doing it - I am assuming 1/2 of that or less - but if this is being done in a garage with any dust, etc. this seems like a lot of work (to us that have no painting skills). And as an F-car owner - and buyer - I do not think I would consider buying a car (newer model) that has been repainted - I have run into many stories - that try to explain things - and I think when you spin this - It might cause hesitation to a buyer down the road.... I would buy the red on and enjoy it - red is awesome (I have one - and owned 2 blue 60's F-cars). - and as Martin mentions - you can never go wrong with Red. Buy a white or other and repaint that one. Another option would be to find a salvage title (that has minimal damage - I have seen a couple in the Ferrariads section) pick it up for very cheap - the value has already adjusted for the salvage title - do with it what you will - you will not lose any money - and may actually make more than you paid. Or the best option is: Just wait and get exactly what you want... This is the way to go - for resale and hassle.
There is a blue 355 spider for sale on ebay right now but not sure what blue it is.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6212&item=2479462147&rd=1
You know, first people moan and whine about the fact that Ferrari factory paint jobs are crap, and that imperfections in the paint are the norm. Then they moan and whine whenever someone wants to repaint one! Boy oh boy... For 10 grand, I can guarantee you that you can get the car completely disassembled, have it repainted with a quality that will blow away the factory job, then have the car carefully reassembled. I say go for it!!
