So I just went out to pickup dinner. Car was fine in the garage. I come home, and my left head light is goi g up and down by itself!!!! So I put the keys in the ignition, and start the car. It still goes up and down. Turn the head lights to the "on" position and it stops and stays up. Hmmm, I thought. What if I turn the car off with the lights on? So I tried it and the lght is still possessed. So for now I shut the battery off to prevent the motor from dying. I'll deal with it in the morning. Any clues? It is thundering and lightening like the dickens over here. I wonder if the car got struck with lightening some how and that caused it? (garage was open when I went out)

strange, sounds possessed. ...maybe Enzo's ghost is pissed at Kimi for not going back out in Q3 and getting relegated to the back of the field?

Had the very same problem when I had a 328 I just took the relay out cleaned and shook it with no further problem, never had the problem with the 355 only that the R/H lift motor has failed on me twice now!!

I saw this same thing on a TR7 some time ago, it turned out to be was the adjustment on the “down” bump stop for the light.

What happens is that the motor turns in the same direction and stops at one point for up, and aprox 160 degrees away for down.

When the light goes down a set of points and a relay cuts power to the motor and the light pod should come up against a stop that loads the motor and stops the armature from spinning and so parks the light. When the light is turned on the motor is powered up again and works over the stop and up it goes.

If the “Down” bump stop is out of adjustment, or the rubber has dropped off, or damaged etc etc, the motor goes down, the power stops but if it does not load up on the "down" stop, inertia will take the armature of the motor past the stop until the “up” points click in and up it goes again, it then get to the up position and because the light is switched off, down it goes again, up.. down..up… down… ad infinitum.

First item is check the bump stop #26 (http://www.eurospares.co.uk/userImages/020/Large/020_140.gif ) and make sure it is not damaged and is making solid contact with the light pod.

Then check the adjustment on the light connecting rod and see how you get on.

Wierd, I turned the battery back on today, and everything was acting seemingly normal. My car is possessed.

    Time for an exocisum..... ;)

Still think it is the Down bump stop, if it does it again take the inner wheel arch off and have a look at the bump stop and make sure the rubber has not come loose.

    If not call a priest......
