No, no, not scared, a little nervous perhaps! From an outsider's point of view, I often wonder how owners treat their cars. Do you treat a Ferrari, like any other car, or do you wrap conton wool around it? For instance, when it comes to given them a bath, is it out with the hose (water restrictions aside) or is it a carefully performed ritual using holy water? I saw an add on one of the internet sites saying (of a 360 Modena), "Never seen rain". I'd be interested in owners take onthis subject. I guess whoever said it is right, if you can affort the 6 figure buys price of even a used car, you shouldn't be concerned about the cost of keeping the thing on the road. I read somewhere though that a fairly new machine cost the owner $25K one year - not cheap motoring. I say this from the point of view that my personal wealth would be struggling to hit the 7 figure mark - another philosophical question - do you need to be rich to own (and keep!) a Ferrari, perhaps the answer is "It helps!" Stay with me! Cheers Perry
Pappy has A LOT on the go, dont worry about that. If you earn $50K or less, then you are really pushing it. Maybe that will get you into a 400i and have enough money laying around for yearly services ect....... But, the question was do you have to to be 'rich' to own and keep a Ferrari.................hell no. Almost anyone can buy a 308 GT4, 400i and even a 308 QV ect.... See how many HSV GTS's cruising around, any one of those guys could buy an older Ferrari of some description and afford to maintain it.
Ahhhhhhhhh........I never saw that. Well, you will have to earn *at least* $100K+ per year to afford to buy a 355 and maintain it. Around $80K will get you into a 348 I reckon.
you could perhaps buy a 400i and throw a small block chev engine and transmission in to avoid the high v12 servicing and maintenance costs. But shucks destroying the heart & soul of a ferrari puts you almost on the same low level as owning a replica in my books.
Sounds like a plan mate. My brother and I saw an engine-less Ferrari the other day for sale and we said the same thing. Throw a dirty old Chev/turbo 300 behind it and use it as a daily hack.
HERESY!!!! absolute heresy....... *fingers in ear* i dont wanna hear anymore.... Actually throw a Turbo 2 litre Suby WRX boxer engine or perhaps a mazda rotary in, confuse the hell out of people when you drive past burbling ohhh thats it, im off to confession session at church tomorrow, bad bad thoughts running in my head now....
OK, that's good to know (that you don't have to be a multi-million dollar man to run a car with a Prancing Horse badge). I drag in a tad over 100K pa, but have the usual couple of kiddliwinks to keep fed and watered, mortgage etc, standard deal for many I guess... So a really good nick 3*8 model wouldn't break the bank to keep on the road and in good nick (once you actually bought it!)? Any hard numbers from owners? Interesting, I was lead to believe that, as I said earlier, Ferraris, especially the older ones, were a money pit (and a bit cranky to drive). Nice to know that's not the case - I guess the trick is finding a car that's been always loved! Thanks for humouring me guys
you're on the Gold Coast the same as me, drop over some time and I'll show you the bills if you want an insight to the running costs, send a PM
