I have seen in so many videos etc the word ‘HOLD’ written in the gear window on the tach—- I have tried everything but I’ve never seen it on mine…. What makes it come on and what does it do or mean?

The car is using the brakes to hold the car still. Once you engage a gear and bump the accelerator it goes away….If you engage a gear AND don’t touch the accelerator the car will stay in Hold…..

Try applying the handbrake manually. You might have to put the idling car in neutral first.

    Click paddles to N
    Pull the handbrake switch
It will say HOLD until you release the brake or open the door and then the red Brake light will flash and then hold steady

Yes this is exactly what I do and no HOLD written…. When I park the car, I used to put in N and pull emergency brake and then turn off— never saw it then. Now I don’t do that upon recommendations to just pull into garage in 1st gear, stop and just turn it off in 1st so I do that now. Still no HOLD… If I’m at a stop light, I’m in gear obv and no HOLD then either… if I pull into a parking space, stop but don’t put it in neutral and then take my foot off the brake, it will just pop into neutral after some time as a safety and no HOLD… so I have no idea.

I mean I really don’t need to see it but can’t figure out what some are doing to make it say this. I know with my AMG, it has the best feature in any car… pull up to stop light, push brake pedal down hard(ish) once and it says HOLD and I can take my foot off the brake while waiting for the light…. Wish every car had this.

Thanks though guys but I guess those don’t work on the F8 or mine

If and when I do that process, it doesn’t say hold, it just shows the little light indicating emergency brake is on
