I liked his videos.
If the buyer comes forth he will be criticized my many for paying too much. Guaranteed! And regardless of how much he paid some will say he got screwed. On the other hand, he will get serious respect for buying a 3-pedal. And in red. So it's probably a wash. I say ignore the haters and come forth! I agree with Tx that reasonable Fchatters are in the majority.
Latest article from him about his disappointment of owning the car: Owning A Ferrari For A Year Was A Disappointment
That's what happens when someone buys a Ferrari just for the sake of saying that they own a Ferrari. Oh well, more Ferrari for the rest of us!
"Let's start with the thing that annoyed me most: the attention. As far as I can tell, most Ferrari buyers fall precisely into two camps: those who buy the car for the attention, and those who buy the car for the driving experience. Admittedly, there's some crossover – but you can usually distinguish the "Let's go on a mountain drive" people from the "Let's wrap it in neon gold and cruise up and down busy streets" crowd." LMAO.
Man I thought Doug was going to be happier with the 360 than his article conveyed. He has some good points, but then again a Ferrari isn't really meant to be a first car, it's more of a 2nd or 3rd car so it doesn't really have to be put through the rigors of a daily driver. I'd say 2 - 3K miles on a Ferrari every year is good honest miles that the car can be enjoyed and not have to be used for purposes that a daily driver would be used for.
The article had this one very solid point..."it's a Point A to Point A car. In other words: this isn't a car you use to go somewhere. It's a car you take out of your house, and drive around for a while, before you return to your house. You don't go to the mall in it. You don't take it to dinner. You can't pick up anything large, and you can't transport more than one person. It's not a vehicle you use. It's a toy to be played with."...
I agree with this 80% of the time, main purpose if out on drives, car shows, car related stuff. But there is that 20%where I have taken an exotic out to lunch/dinner in or out of the city or out to a lounge/bar/club or to the store even for some groceries or out to do errands if they had to be done on a day when I was driving one of my exotics. The key for me is when out and about always go a patterned route, know the parking situation if doing errands (like parking far away in the grocery store lot or my post office always has an empty side lot during the day), or if out on the town park in front of the venue always park it yourself, hold the keys, and tip the valet.
Actually, if the weather is good my 360 IS my go out to dinner car, my go shopping car, etc! It's a great CAR, I enjoy driving it and I enjoy showing it off!
Not true, I have a pretty nice daily driver but I take my F430 to malls, errands, dinners etc whenever I want. I have plenty of pics of my car at regular parking lot/side street, here are some: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143487541-post51.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143144312-post105.html
And that "article" is what a Porsche aficionado writes when he "owns" a Ferrari for a year... or rather someone who really can't afford a 360 (see complaining about a $150/hr labor rate and a $1000 service). The biggest hit will be to his writing "career" when nobody cares about the 996 Turbo he's making payments on for a year. And the best part is all Ferrari owners get clumped into this tripe by association... Of course, I personally would rather not say to people "I USED to own a Ferrari for a year for a project.. "
^^^ Porsche maintenance can be $$$ too. I have to get new tires for my GT2 un a bit and they are much more scarce and expensive than the F430 shoes lol.
I don't use my 360 as a Point A to Point A car. I very much drive it to the mall, Walmart, Home Depot, the office, the country club, dining at nice restaurants, Bob Evans, etc.
Funny how Doug suggested a Porsche for daily driving after selling his Ferrari. I have a Porsche 996 turbo that I've converted to my 'track day car' over the years. I just finished dialing in my new Ohlins suspension with GT3 top mounts. Removed over 400 lbs of useless equipment, added a 4 pt cage with harnesses, and she's a bit too harsh for commuting purposes. I purchased my F430 with a desire to change NOTHING on her. Reo-magnetic suspension, normal Brembo brakes, killer stereo, leather EVERYTHING, super comfy seats, ALL SEASON radials. The best commuter car I've ever owned! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Amazing where this thread has led. Pretty interesting stuff really (some of it). P.S. I almost always take two parking spots in a lot. Folks do not seem to mind. In fact, they love to check it out.
I thought that he was pretty honest that it was a career booster for him, and that he admittedly couldn't afford risking damage to it, which meant that he was limited in how he used it. That said, there is some lost opportunity because he may have done better financially by video taping himself beating the hell out of the car and being a prankster.
Wow, this thread has some legs. I agree with the above from singletrack. What amazed me is how much commenters loved his stories on Jalop. Many were effusive and at least one guy said his writing was "genius." Never got that.
Agreed, no need to wonder about how alot of Ferrari owners get the Snobby reputation. Guy was OK funny, obviously not a real car journalist, and who on youtube isn't in the self publicity business?
