Have only owned my '03 360 for 10 months but so far have had no issue.
Had my 2003 360 for exactly a year and no F1 issues - 11000 miles on the clock. Just had it serviced and everything checked out in order. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Never had a problem with the F1 system in any of my 360 road cars or my Challenge. Having said that I have been at the start line on a Hill climb and could not get gears. Nothing to do with the F1 system though the alternator failed, no 12 volts = no gears.
2002 360 spider, 25,000 km on the clock. Just had new clutch from dealer, it didn't want to engage in reverse when warm and would creep in gear . It would get in reverse only from 1st until I had the pis adjusted. After the auto-relearn and pis adjustment, the f1 light is on with no codes in the system. Everything works normally but that light sure is annoying! Plan to send the tcm for a re-flash in the winter.
Creeping in gear indicates that the PIS is set wrong and the clutch is dragging. When the clutch is dragging you can't shift to R. Typical of having things set up wrong. You need an SD to diagnose the F1 light. May just be that it wasn't reset properly but you need to get the code read and address any issue. Once you have that done, you are probably good to go for a long time.
No problems in my scud, except that right after I first got it and took it into the mountains it went into neutral once and wouldn't go back into gear. I pulled over, turned it off, restarted it, and it was fine. No issues since then. Thinking the car probably just hadn't been vigorously in a while.
Hey Skidkid, That's exactly why I had to go to someone else other than Ferrari dealer. They put the clutch in last year before I purchased the car and clearly didn't adjust it properly. When I asked them about it now, they said a couple hours of diagnostics would give me an answer. Their first guess was F1 pump!!! Had the pis adjusted with a Leonardo and everything is fine except a dash light with no codes in the F1 system.
That's because they tried to carry out a self-learn on an early TCU. You should never do that procedure on the early units because they often stall out part way through and it leaves the warning light on and it won't erase. You also can't repair it, or flash it. You need a new unit..
Thanks Eddie. That is a bummer and probably not the answer that he wanted to hear. On the plus side, upgrading to the latest TCU makes a huge improvement in how it drives. To OP, I never said that the dealership was worth a darn. I was getting the car sorted when it was new. The dealer set my PIS much too tight (the car was actually moving when not on the brake) and then tried to tell me it was an actuator. I went to a local independent and had it fixed, that was 8 years ago and not a problem since.
The F1 is a neat piece of tech, but IMHO it's a fragile and needlessly expensive piece of tech especially when the car is driven as it was designed/intended. Personally on my 360 CS I have gone though an actuator $$$$, and F1 pump $$, many many hours of troubleshooting $$$$$$$, now a clutch flywheel, T/O bearing, and all the sensors $$$, and now a TCU $$...again I think it's neat on the track (when it doesn't got to N out of the blue, though waaayy slower than the double clutch systems) so if I could have and MT I would immediately make the switch. The TCU is a dumb and codes really don't help that much...I would probably have an extra $20K to spend on tires and mods if I had a MT...IMHO, neat but fragile and unnecessarily expensive.
Rustybits and Skidkid, You boys are my new best friends!! Sure, I'm not thrilled in knowing that my tcm is an expensive paper weight but it's nice to have a solid answer that makes sense. Dealer thought to sell me a new F1 pump for $4000. Good guess at my cost! My independent didn't quite know but we both noticed a stall in the programming. Now where does one dig for a quality tcu?
early after going to monterey for the concours they had to do some work on mine and i was told by a dealer when i had a service that i may need a new clutch at some point-16000 miles on the car. wish i had a 6 speed manual for the long term.
Only 3,500 km but no problems so far. At 26,000 km in total car has 80% clutch remaining. After recent service where I assume kiss points were readjusted and the addition of new MPSS it feels superb, almost like a next generation car. F1 much more fun and interactive than pdk.
Lots more positive replies than negative. There you go all you F1 guys, just relax and don't worry from now on.
Well, I have an issue. The cars don't sound as good as those two seasons back, and it's getting boring watching the Mercedes cars win almost all the races. Oh wait. Wrong F1!
Owned my 99 360 for five years so probably have the early ECU but no major problems had some warning light some years ago just topped up the oil. Would never change to a manual, those neck snapping gear up changes and the automatic gas blip on downshifting when in race mode is intoxicating.
