I'm trying to put the valve covers back on my 355 and I can't seem to get the little o-rings around the spark plug holes to stay in their grooves.... what do you use to hold them in place until the valve cover is in place?

I use Gasgacinch to hold the o-rings in place: http://www.gasgacinch.com/ Works great, plus I love the politically incorrect girl with her shirt flying up on the outside of the can.

Guys, thanks for the suggestions. Here's what actually worked for me.

After f'ing around for a few hours trying to get a few things (different greases and gasket preps) to work I decided that I wanted to just go pick up larger o-rings. Well, the industrial place down the road where we get our stuff didn't have anything that small in stock and I didn't feel like waiting for them so I decide to make them bigger. I found a socket that was slightly bigger aorund that the o-ring and lubbed them up and let them sit for an hour oe so while I was finishing up work. That little bit of stretch and a slight coating of Hylamar did the trick.

a small amount of silicon applied along the outer portion of the groove works well. 'Outer poirtion of the groove' means that any excess will be pushed into the plug well and not inside the valve cover.

a zip tie cut to expose a sharp edge along its end works great to remove the old silicon from the groove. The width of a zip tie fits the groove quite well. Hard enough to cut the silicon and soft enough not to mar the aluminum - works great.

the tech previous to me used a 'load' of silicon in the groove along with the o-ring. I just used enough to secure the o-ring & installed it while the silicon was still wet.

Yeah, I've seen that before. I'm NOT a big fan of silicone..... Unless your talking about using it in strategically placed bags......
