    When I drove my '85 QV the other day after it had been basically sitting for a few months, it started and idled a bit rough. When I drove away it was way, way down on power. Felt like maybe I'd lost a bank. After a short time (just enough to come up to temp a bit) it died completely. Had to get it flatbedded home. After that, the symptoms have been consistent. If I start it up after it's been sitting for at least a few hours, it starts up right away, revs up to about 1800 RPM briefly (1-2 seconds) and then completely dies. Any further attempt to start it, and it won't even begin to catch. Wait a few hours, and the process repeats itself.

    I've checked the obvious: No obstructions in the air intake path, I'm getting spark on both cylinders when I turn the engine over, the fuel pump and frequency valve seem function with the keys in the ignition if I pull the lockout connector, fuel seems to be getting to the injectors (if I depress the FD plate, I can hear the injectors whine), the cold start injector relay clicks, the protection relay switches correctly...

    What next? Check fuel system pressures?

    Just to be clear, are you saying that during the "cranking but not starting after the inital 1800 RPM for a few seconds" events:

    1. With the safety switch unplugged and the key "on", you hear the fuel pump running and can feel the FV buzzing;

    2. During the cranking (with the safety switch still unplugged and the fuel pump running and FV buzzing), you confirm that you have spark on both banks,

    and it still won't start/cough?

    During the first attempt, after many hours, the cold start injector will still spray fuel, even if the supply fuel pressure is low; however the injectors will only spray if the fuel pressure is above 3.3~4.0 bar -- so it must be at least that high. But if you have spark, fuel pump running, and FV running, about the only other things left on a K-Jet with Lambda to measure are the supply pressure and control pressure -- maybe your WUR has failed, and the control pressure is some wacky value -- just a thought...Good Hunting!

    Yes Steve, your assumptions are right. I guess I'll get the fuel system pressure check kit and the bosch kjet book out and dig up some of the right crush washers and see what I can see. Thanks for the input.
