Some more...... Back to work next week , will be the last for a while. Lovely 246 F1 replica, 250 LM. Sorry about the "DINO centric" nature of the photos. I dont think I've seen as many in the one spot since. Excellent pics. How good was that 250LM? It is a shame that we will never see these cars again now that they have left our country. Good old Aussie tax system strikes again. Recent changes mean that what was once a "tax paid car" is no longer once it is exported (unless the original person who paid the tax re-imports it).
I remember seeing the 250LM on display at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in the early 80's. I kinda vaguely remember money was being raised "to keep it in the country". David Mckay was there and if my memory serves me correct, it could have been bought for $200k at that time. It was about what my folks house was worth so unfortunately they ignored my suggestion that it would be a great investment. What would a pimply 15 year old know?? So what taxes are applicable if it is brought back as a race car?
Here's another of the 250LM taken at the Sydney motor show - can't remember which year we went unfortunately, v.early 80's. Also a 275GTB competition? The LM was just absolutely superb. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I came across several mentions of the 250LM sale whilst packing up the library recently. From memory it sold at auction in the low $200's? Something like 2.5 times a new boxer. Race car taxes are 5% duty and 10% GST all on the landed price. Not too hard to handle on a 360 GT; but quite a different matter on a 250 LM. What are they these days, $3-5 million US or something like that?
Did David Mckay actually have any interest in it or was it owned by many? I know he raced it through his Scuderia Veloce Team. I wonder what it was originally worth. I can remember reading an article in Sports Car World or such years ago........
Mckay bought car through shell sponsers money. From 1967 it was leased to A.Bbuchanan then solded to A.Bencein 1968,after 1 race David bought her back in about 1982 a new company made up of Mckay and others was formed,in about 1985 sold to Ralph Lauren Reference Blanden,Mckay and M.Massini. Any one got the Corgi model car?
Anyone else notice the interiors are different in the two LM pics? The interior was all nero, now there seems to be some beige in there. The car should have been kept original.
It's the same car (s/n 6321) and as far as I remember, it had a nero interior which can clearly be seen in Ausdino's photo. IIRC, most 250LMs came with panno blu (which I think means blue cloth), but s/n 6321 was panno nero.
Judge, If you can, could you shed some light on Lauren's LM, please? Is the interior still nero, or is it just my eyes playing tricks on me?
I have it as rosso toreador/panno nero. I need to run downstairs and see if there is a good picture of it in one of my old Rosso magazines.
I think this car has been covered the most, so I'll add another picture of it. Thanks for those super period pictures. Regards Jurgen Image Unavailable, Please Login
