I bet it is a blast to get a ride with this guy in his flying car.
Doesn't fly very high or far, but it has to be a thrill on lift-off! :)

    http://www.stormclimb.com/2011/09/17/ex-russian-pilot-transforms-his-zaz-tavria-into-a-flying-car/

Discovery recently reported that 72-year-old retired Russian pilot Valery Bulgakov had converted his 1987 Ukrainian-built ZAZ Tavria into a flying car.
These images show the impressive result of his eccentric labours on display in July at the Autoexotics motor show in Moscow.

Bulgakov replaced the doors and bonnet (hood) with lighter materials and added a double set of wings, effectively transforming the Tavria into a biplane.
The flying car, which was designed purely to train would-be pilots, has even been patented.

With a takeoff speed of 60 miles per hour (which takes a standard Tavria around 20 seconds to reach), sustained flight range of 600 feet and maximum altitude of ten feet, this is hardly a high performance machine.
Whether it will be approved for flight by Russian authorities, however, remains to be seen.

That's awesome! Where's a video of it in flight?

True, but the article implies it is some sort of self-launching glider.

He drives it on the ground to 60 mph and then lifts it off the ground.
Maximum gliding distance is 600 feet at 10 feet off the ground.

Probably stays in ground effect for the whole flight.

I still think it is crazy and I would NOT want a ride with him in that thing. :)

Also it doesn't look like the design is going to be all that stable while airborne.

The wing area doesn't look very large given the weight of the car & passenger.

    Very little rudder authority.

And not much dihedral for controlling uncommanded banking.

I hope the front wing/canard starts to stall before the rear wing does!

Never underestimate the ingenuity of eccentric Russians. ;-)

I'd love to see that thing attempt to get off the ground. Yikes!
