Hi eveyone, have not posted in a long time... Hoping someone can help me out. Does anyone know how I would find out the wheel/tire dimensions from 1973 F1 season? I'm pretty sure I have a rear Tyrrell 006 wheel w/ rain tire from Mosport 1973, but I am looking for the sizes to confirm. I hope this is in the proper section of the forum...

I don't have the Tyrell specs in front of me, and I don't know for certain if a rain tire would have different dimensions, but I can tell you that the rear tire on the 1973 Ferrari F1 cars was a Goodyear 14.00/26.00-13.

my wheel/tire is 24x14.0-13. Definitely a rain tire. I have been told it is either '73 or 74. Any body else care to weigh in? It is a Good Year "Blue Streak sports car special" (written on sidewall.)

Talk about memory lane I spent most of this race in the Lotus pit with the late Colin Chapman
in the rain,I profoundly remember Colin tossing his hat in the air when "Emerson" won only to
have it dashed when they named Peter Revson had won due to a pace car pass under a yellow
if I remember right.Do you remember how you came across this wheel and tire because at the
end of this race when the teams were leaving the PA system was asking if "someone could please
return the wheel belonging to the Tyrrell Team"If it is from this race i'm sure it was thought of as
a harmless prank back then,it's just funny I remember stuff like this and not my kid's names sometimes.

I purchased this wheel from a collection of F1 parts and such. The seller assured me it was from a Tyrrell "around '73 or '74..." and my research showed that the rim looks to be Tyrrell, and the '73 race was indeed a disasterous rain race, so...

I don't know if I like sound of the potentially dubious initial aquisition... I hope I'm not inviting any "bad karma" or dissaproval. I do respect the history of the earlier days and the inconvenience that the loss of said wheel could have caused... Especially considering the race that followed Mosport in '73.

I'm sorry if I spooked you,in the early 70's mosport was a bit like "animal house" sometime in 73 or 74
at the can-am with the UOP shadow's of Folmer and Oliver a naked streaker was running back and forth across
the back straight and after the race a bunch of spectator's started racing around the track in both directions
I watched a Daytona Spyder passing a school bus that was on the track also.Yes there were some collisions that
day.Enjoy your piece of history and don't think of "bad karma" about what happened at the Glen after.
    take care

Thanks for the peace of mind. I started going to Mosport in 1988 for the Trans am and WSC series, and from what I can tell, even in it's PC era, Mosport is still a good party. I have heard lots of great stories from the track's "hay days" that make me wish I had been born 10 or 15 years earlier...

I am glad that you somewhat confirmed my wheel's authenticity...

Did Cevert's car lose a wheel (at least one?) in his collision with Scheckter in the 1973 Canadian Grand Prix? The Tyrrell was apparently destroyed. I wonder if this wheel was appropriated out on the track after the accident?

I just looked at my old review tape of the 1973 Grand Prix season, to see if there might be some indication of what the wheel might have looked like (no luck). I was amazed to see that the tape makes no mention of the fact that Cevert was killed at the next race!

This wheel does not appear to have been intalled, the center is clean and not marked and the four studs on the back are also unmarked, so I don't think it has ever been mounted. I am finding it very difficult to find tech regs/specs for the '73 season. You guys have been helpful, though. I'll post a pic when I get a chance...
