Quick follow-up... just been emailed by the data companies stating that the theft marker for s/n 14059 has been REMOVED.

Anyone know what that was about? Presumably if the marker was on there, it was at one point recorded as stolen..??

    Hi Mark

I bought the car in Jan 1981 from Maranello Cocencionnaires, who were selling it on behalf of R A Cookson of Wylam, Northumberland (who had it on RAC 46). I was working overseas at the time and this must have been one of my first outings on my return.

I'm happy to say those horrible plates soon went!

Sorry Grant, but if the blue one is 15055, then it has had a colour change, a nudge bar added, BB seats fitted and the BB rear wheels removed.

Trouble is, and despite having brokered this car many, many years ago, I do not know the chassis or registration numbers.

    Hi Mark
    This is 15055.
I saw it last year and it was being driven by someone around 20ish!
There are a lot of similarities.
The prancing horse above the Ferrari script on the boot, rectangular dealer sticker in back window, the same steering wheel which is an usual one [ not a Daytna one I think as the spokes are too fat], blue seat with black inserts.

Minus things it does not have the pini. flags on the boot lid and does not have the nudge bar, 7&1/2" rear wheels? Maybe these where changed if it was painted?

Screen print from Instagram and photo from when it was for sale.

Just to add, the picture of the car taken when it was for sale last, was from Rardley Motors.
Thanks Mike for reminding me where I nabbed it from!

Hi Mark, no he didn't. Dad would have been horrified at such a heinous crime! I thought I had some paperwork from when he bought it, but have just looked and not where I thought it was. I don't recall seeing anything about who he sold it to.
Seems the poor old thing was even more abused when converted to lhd and messed about in the US.

I have confirmed, with the help of Mike Wheeler, who handled the car subsequently to me, that the blue K Brothers car is #14523.

15055 is actually associated with a different Instagram account https://instagram.com/p/BBDTG10xPDW/ I believe this is Ollie's father's car.

The Daytona also appears in this video
http://youtu.be/tS9o4crTUaQ Which was made by the same filmmaker who shot the video of me and my car for Petrolicious.

Right... 365 GT s/n 13253. Originally Avorio I believe, but now Black with Tan/Beige interior.

Photo below is NOT mine - copyright Flat4 Cars in Japan when it was for sale recently.

I'm sure this was being marketed at some point (either then, or previously) as having been once owned by Yoko Ono.

Anyone know if that is true?

My friend owned this (it is red-sorry he only has black and white photograph of it) 308 GT4 which he bought from Paul Baber ,then of Maranello Concessionaires, circa 1979-81.He sold it to a chap in the Brighton area. It seems that Mike Pullen of Carrerra Sport in Haywards Heath bought it from this guy. The car was damaged at Goodwood-not by Mike-and Mike sold it to Harry Hawkridge of Hawk cars in Kent, thinking he would use the engine/gearbox in one of his replica cars.
Does anyone know if the car I still about ,as Mike seems to think it might have been repaired?

    Dear Ed

I brokered this car back in 1988 to a good friend/client. It was still Avorio and needed restoring. Colin Clarke waved his wand, and it was then changed to black.

There was NO mention of it being Yoko Ono's then, and it would not have been since then, for sure.

An incomplete list of owners prior to my friend is. 1st, W Gearing Sherrat. Later Patrick Adams followed by Andrew Fenwick.

Not very good pictures taken by me at FOC Concours Birtsmorton Court, July 1991.

It would appear that #13253 was originally ordered by Wilmslow Garages, of Wilmslow Cheshire, who were the then Jensen, Lancia and Aston Martin dealers for the area. On the 3rd May 1969 with delivery estimated-somewhat optimistically- at 12 weeks.

In the event Maranello Concessionaires Ltd supplied the car on the on the 22nd April 1970, when it was registered CPC 2H, to Mr Walter Gearing-Sherratt, of Newport, Isle of Wight. Invoice number 2488 from Maranello Concessionaires-they appear to have supplied the car directly to Mr Gearing-Sherratt –shows the car cost £8,285.0.d ,which included 22 gallons of petrol and twelve months road tax £25.0.0d!As a “stop gap” whilst the 365 GT 2+2 was being built, Maranello supplied Mr Gearing-Sherratt with a 365 GTC. This was taken back in part-exchange for an allowance of £6900.

On the 30th May 1970 a mechanic was sent by Maranello Concessionaires to the Isle of Wight to carry out the first service. This was my colleague Peter Raven! The “C” voucher service was carried out on the 18th October 1970.A new rear bumper was fitted under warranty on the 31st March 1971 whist having a 3,000 mile service at 7,208 miles. The cost of this service was £29.15! A 6,000 service was carried out on the 30th July 1971 at 7,998 miles. The 12,000 mile service was carried out on the 30th April 1972 with 11,597 miles for £144.81!

Mr Gearing-Sherratt would appear to have passed away in late 1973 or early 1974 when his lawyers asked of valuations for probate of his365 GT 2+2 and a 246 GT!

Ferrari Owners Club records show that Mr P Gibbs of The Barbican, London and Jack Adulayauichitr was noted as past owners.

The penultimate owner was Mr Stephen Annett of Surrey, bought the car on the 15th August 1988.Mr Annett had the car restored between January 1989 and March 1991 by Colin Clarke Engineering Ltd of London NW10 - with pages of invoices totalling some £50,713.77! It was entered it in the 1991 Ferrari Owners Club Concours, were it finished second in class, with 307 points with 51,000 miles.

Purchased by the last owner, Mr Kenneth Collins of East Sussex, on the 11th February 1994 from Coys, for £33,500. Since February 1994 Mr Collins kept a log of every journey noting destination, distance and weather! Ferrari specialists, Rosneath of East Sussex, commenced an engine rebuild in November 1997 which was completed in late 1999

Thanks for the info guys - most useful.

    Re: this quote

Was that a Coys auction or treaty sale? I know there was an auction on 2nd February that year, but it's not listed on the online results that I can find.

Perhaps a no-sale from the rostrum but then sold a week or so after the auction?

The reason I ask is that an auction catalogue was shown in the Japanese advert, and certainly looks like the Coys style. Low res photo though - no words/dates legible.

My notes confirm the auction was 2 Feb. I am pretty certain from memory it was 'Not Sold' but I have no note of prices etc. I will look for the catalogue; if I was there I would have noted the top bid.

A quick note to say thanks for all of the contributors to this amazing thread, a fascinating and enjoyable read and a great nostalgic trip into the past.

Next time I get into the loft I'll hunt my pictures from an early 90's FOC annual concours.
