June 1980, Goodwood paddock. 308 GT4 #11844, which I believe, was then owned by David Scheldt. Whatever happened to him ? Image Unavailable, Please Login
In Bognor Regis now? Seems to tie in with approx dates of when his previous address changed ownership. -Ed
The car is for sale in London. According to the 308 GT4 registry #11844 was completed in late November 1975 and trucked to UK concessionaires ,Maranello in December 1975. Order number 185 was finished in Marrone metallic Dino 106-M-73 with Beige hide (VM3234) and Beige carpets. In turn the car was supplied to the then Ferrari agents Lazenby Garages of Rothley,(by now owned by Cooper group and rebranded later as such in 1976) Leicestershire and first registered MJU 889P,on the 2nd March 1976 to Lazenby Garages as their own demonstrator. According to Tony Willis who was the then managing director of Lazenby Garages, this was their first GT4 demonstrator. The then (January 1976)list price was £15,718.95 plus delivery number plates and road tax. In addition the car was optioned with electric windows £120.46, heated rear window £28.06, air conditioning £374.40, leather interior£302.86 and metallic paint £152.10. Four months later the car passed into the ownership of its "first" owner with 6,225 miles and registered to Mr Geoffrey Reyner of Geoffrey Reyner Ltd -a transport company-of Manchester on the 9th July 1976.Reyners owned a number of Ferraris according to Tony Willis ,who says that this car was replaced by a later GT4 in August 1978.The car appears to passed into the trade with Perry Motors Ltd in London, who sold the car to a motor trader ,Michael Nathan also of London . The car passed in to the ownership of Mr David Woolley of London on the 9th August 1978,re registering the car ,DW 26 removed from his Rolls Royce. In a letter with the car, written when he sold it , Mr Woolley states that "the car has had only one other owner and was purchased from Michael Nathan". Passing into the ownership ,with some 32,000 miles, of Mr David Scheldt of Middlesex on the 9th January 1980, swapping it for a 308 GTB .Incidentally the car was by now re registered OAR 217P,and registered to his company Scheldt and Petty an Italian car specialist. Mr Scheldt had the car refinished in Blue notifying the DVLA of the change on the 4th November 1982. Passing to another car dealer, Mr John Day, who registered it to his company, Day and Shindler Ltd of London ,on the 13th July 1987,using the car himself . The car was next purchased by Mr Michael O'Brien from John Day for £23,500 ,with some 38,000 miles, and registered to him on the 23rd April 1990.Two years later he re registered the car into his company ,HI-Fi electronics manufacturer, Swisstone Electronics Ltd, on the 1st June 1992-and by now finished in yellow. Exactly twelve months later it was re-registered to Mr Michael O'Brien of Surrey. Upon his acquisition he sent the car to Moore Tech Engineering in Chessington to repaint the car red and having engine/gearbox removed to "refurbish the engine bay". Some £9,616.17 was spent on the 30th November 1991. It seems that John Day was a good friend of the next owner, Mr John McDonald of Eire-apparently introducing him to Michael O'Brien . Mr O'Brien sold the car to his friends ,in early 1996 (John and Ursula McDonald- who had set up the HI-FI store, Richer Sounds in Ireland, and would explain Mr McDonalds enthusiasm to buy the car from a fellow "Hi-Fi'er"). Having bought the car it was transported to Holyhead for the crossing to Dublin in July 1996.Mr McDonald kept the car for six years in that time covering 54 miles and never registering it in Ireland! He sent it to a friend with a Peugeot dealership/workshop for "fettling" and whilst there it was damaged. Mr McDonald received compensation for repairs from the insurance company, but decided to sell it to a friend Mr James Reilly, the minister for health ,where it joined a collection of Jaguars. The car returned to the UK mainland in the Autumn of 2015 where it was sent to Steve Moody of respected marque specialist SMDG for recommissioning and MOT testing. This has included new cam belts ,replacement tailpipes ,radiator. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Robert W Thank you so much for posting these wonderful photos of old Ferraris. So nice to see some of them in everyday surroundings-it shows how much the cars stand out. My husband now owns the Azzuro Blue 308 GTS QV (reg B23OVT). I would be so grateful if I could arrange a way of giving him a copy of your photograph of this car -I would pay you for your trouble as it would be very special. I do now know if this is possible. Thank you again Sarah
Ah, my first Ferrari which I owned from 1995 - 1997. It was red with black interior when I had it. Last time I saw it, at the NEC auction in 2012, it had been restored - repainted light blue and retrimmed. https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/1973-ferrari-308-gt4-dino Originally LHD, it had been converted to RHD by the time I had it. Still taxed + MOT'd according to the DVLA site. I remember researching prior owners. Perhaps you are one of them?
If you search on Instagram for brdcspeedman you can find lots of old (and new) photo's from UK Ferrari's. A short preview.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's described on the BRDCSpeedman (Michael Fisher) Instagram feed as SN 8659 and that is was originally yellow. He indicates he owned it twice.
Having read back through the last 20 pages of this thread (fascinating stuff) it is clear there is quite a collective of knowledge here. I'm trying to trace any information on my GT4 chassis 09114. If anyone has come across the car in the past I would love to know. It has spent most of its life registered as UEV 180N but was first registered under JVX 591N when new and spent some time on FWB 1 It is has been Red since 1978 but was originally Blu Chiaro with Beige leather. It was sent to Lancaster Garages as a Demo and they kept it for two years as far as I know. Cheers Jon
s/n 09114 (still on UEV 180N) is currently on a SORN. There is no online MOT history for the vehicle whatsoever, which suggests that it hasn't been on the road for the last 10-12 years. It's not stuck in someone's garage/barn though... last keeper change was July 2015, so my guess is that it's been sold on as a project to someone who's aiming to get it back on the road at some point. -Ed
The car in Fisher's photo on Instagram is RHD. However... is s/n 08659 not recorded by Maranello Concessionaires as LHD and going to Hussein bin Talal when new? The photo attached (copyright not known) also shows Hussein bin Talal climbing about a 275 GTB - although LHD. So two questions... 1) I'm not disputing that s/n 08659 was ordered via the UK, but was it 100% RHD when new? Factory records confirm that? 2) If RHD confirmed as above, then which s/n is shown with Hussein bin Talal? -Ed Image Unavailable, Please Login
Original exterior color: Argento Metallizzato 106-E-1. Passenger headrest, full leather seats, instruments in kilometers. Sold new to King Hussein of Jordan, and apparently kept in France. This is NOT the car pictured in the Ferrari Factory Yearbook 1974, Red Book, as that car is a LHD car. Marcel Massini
It's my car, I bought it in July 2015 and yes it is off the road mid restoration, I'm just trying to find out more of its history whilst I do that. Thanks Jon
So the factory record *confirms* RHD? UK order book suggests it was LHD. Not claiming either way - just interested to discover evidence. -Ed
I have always been under the impression that this car was converted from LHD to RHD, but I have no idea when or by whom. My pictures taken at Goodwood in 1985. Passenger head rest can be clearly seen. Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Apologies, Jon. I misread your initial post. Have you received any information about previous owners from FOC records yet? -Ed
