Great photo of a lot of new Dinos courtesy of Paul Baber https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm6UXo4oVrC/ "Marranello Concessionaires Tower Garage car park 1973. All new cars. Mostly unsold. Mainly Dinos with a few Daytonas. This was the time of the early 1970’s oil crisis. Petrol was rationed and it was bloody hard to sell a Ferrari. Definitely a case of which colour would Sir like? The Colonel (Col. Ronnie Hoare - owner of UK Ferrari Importer Maranello Concessionaires) must be given credit as he refused to discount knowing it would be a disaster for future sales" Image Unavailable, Please Login

I think Paul may have got the chassis number wrong for FPA 132J in my post #235 above. According to the Compendium #01212 was a German market car. It looks like this car may have been #01512 which was a Rosso Chiaro with Nero 161 vinyl M series example.
Sure this was handing over a new car? I see a prancing horse and FERRARI badge on the rear...would a dealer put those on a Dino at time of sale?
We covered this many times in the past Ron and Matthias covered it in the Compendium. The factory allowed Maranello Concessionaires to add the Ferrari badges to "assist" with sales in the early 70's. My old car #04054 had the badges fitted by Maranello when new in 1972 and TonyL has an ex Maranello demonstrator '73 chairs and flares 246GT which also had them fitted from new.
Iain The car in the photograph is 01616 which was the Maranello Demonstrator and Road Test car and was not being handed over to the the couple in the photograph. I know this because I now own the car they bought new. It is 02732, pictured on p.285 of the 1st Edition of The Compendium and p.301 of the 2nd. They are Valentine & Karl Richardson, the car was first registered 1KVW and was owned by them up until the mid 80's. I was sent a copy of that photograph by Karl & Valentine's son Peter and had the presence of mind to get Mike Salmon to sign a couple of copies. Mark
I knew the registration was familiar Mark so I had a rummage through some of my old magazines and low and behold there is #01616 on the cover of the 5th August 1971 issue of Autocar. The article in the magazine is printed in full colour which was rare at that point as the magazine was mainly black and white on newsprint quality paper. They took the car from Maranello's Egham garage down to Devon. The car was finished in Rosso Chiaro 20 r 190 with a Nero 161 vinyl interior. Australia, Chassis 4426 RHD, that I owned in the 80's. Resale red was the colour when I bought it, not original. I also got sick of trying to see the tacho and the speedo around the rim of the wheel in a full sweep so I make this arrangement with the correct brushed finish and shade as the original. Better for driving and just swapped it back for concours.

#03716 sold in Paris at Artcurial auction in 2013.... price € 250300,- Artcurial | Press Release « Automobiles sur les Champs 6 » | 20-10-2013
Some great photo's of the Scaglietti and Ferrari factories taken by Neill Bruce who became the official photographer for Maranello Concessionaires in the UK. They are from his new book "50 Years with Ferraris: Photographer Neill Bruce's story of a lifetime working with Maranello Concessionaires". The Dino photo's show cars in various stages of build and entering the paint shop and show a 246 GT with flared arches. The 275 GTB Daytona photo's are interesting as they include a shot of the trim shop workbenches showing seat assembly. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
