For those of you who have an old-style reservoir -
does the cap have a rubber o-ring in the top?

My '95 355 cap was fine until it came back from a major & now the top wont stay snug.
I read about heat & the threads. But I'd rather leave the tank alone if the top is just missing it's o-ring. I'm guessing it's about 80mmx5mm. Anybody?

I do have a new (bmw) replacement tank, and if I can't get the top to stay on snug, I'll replace it.

I just ordered a replacement tank from Ricambi, tired of checking it all the time.
If I drive 50 miles it is starting to come off.

No O ring on mine. Never had a problem. Since you just had a major check to see if the cap hits the plastic cover through which the neck of the tank protrudes rather that actually tightening on the tank.

Wasn't this a recall item (along with the fuel lines)? If so, I'd update it now

No recall was issued, AFAIK. There are no outstanding recalls on my car and the PS reservoir is original.

Recall 48 is the fuel divder block. That recall is only for single fuel pump cars. Dual fuel pump cars are not subject to that recall.

may not have been a recall but there is an updated cap and reservoir which resolves the issue.....I updated mine around 7 or 8 years ago.

When I talked to Daniel he mentioned a service bulletin concerning the PS tank. Have not had a major service (engine out ) recently. When tightening the cap I have always been able to "strip" it, it gets tighter and tighter and then slips.....another turn and it gets snug. If you turn it to far it "slips" again. Last service I had all fluids in the car changed. After a 170 mile drive it was almost falling off, they may have not tightened it all the way, or it may have vibrated loose.
