This coming 4th of July weekend will find me at the Western Antique Aeroplane and Auto Museum with my art booth set up. No big deal there but they will be flying many of their antiques. The oldest, a 1917 JN4D ( ser. no. 1), and many more including things like an American Eagle, Buhl Bull Pup, Waco 10, and a bunch of three cylinder affairs like Mr. Piper's personal Cub, and a Spartan. Then there's a fleet of all the "L" planes except an L-1. Should be a bunch of fun if the weather holds.

I saw a Jenny fly in to my airport a few (okay, about 15) years ago. He was on downwind, and we saw something fall from the airplane. Turned out it was a wheel!

He couldn't see it from the cockpit, so he landed, nosed over, no injuries but got the prop pretty good. He had a wooden prop on it, and it turned out he had another one in his hangar. He was flying it again by the end of the weekend.

His comment was that something like that happened with the Jenny on every flight!

Hey Bob, I haven't had time to go through all the stuff in this aviation section, but do you have any old photos of the "good old stuff" ? Birds, Kreider Reisners, Wacos, Travel Airs, Parks etc ??? We all know that real airplanes have round engines (or ox-5s or Hissos) and belch smoke and oil (wink wink)

Sorry to take so long in answering. I've been up to my neck in art shows, the last one in Hood River at the museum. I took a few shots when I could but my son, who is one of their pilots, has taken many more. Last weekend there were all kinds of airplanes there and the prime event was flying a 1927 OX5 powered American Eagle. There was a 1929 Travel Air with a '27 Wright J-5 on it. Then there were old Stinsons, Wacos, Staggerwings, etc. A great sight for old airplane lovers.

Sounds like a good time, your son works for the museum ? Have you ever gone to the AAA fly-in in Iowa ? They always have a lot of really nice antique planes. The fly-in in Brodhead, WI is another really good one that I was hoping to attend this year but I ended up having to work so I missed it

Some of my friends have been flying in the air tours the past few years and hopefully I will be able to get involved with them next year or so, whenever they get together again.and I can get the time off...

The center piece of the museum is their JN4D " Jenny". It was built in 1917 and was the very first one...SERIAL NUMBER ONE. It was found in a barn in Ohio...honest story...and restored by Tom Murphy. It was covered with an original bolt of Irish linen that was carefully wrapped 80 years ago. This museum has a collection of the unique machines in this country. A Stinson MR once owned by Howard Hughes, the original one and only Stearman Model 70, Piper's personal Cub powered by a three cylinder Lenape. A 1927 American Eagle, Lincoln-Page,Eagle Rock, Bull Pup, Curtiss Robin with an OX5, a Curtiss Junior, etc. They are all flyable and are flown as much as possible.
There are 30 or 40 beautiful antique cars also. A great place. To see the Jenny check www.parkzart.com
