    What is the relationship between Bentley and Rolls Royce? Are they two separate companies?

    To answer navygakman's question, or rather an attemp to answer, my understanding is that RR and Bently were of the same origin. RR is dedicated to the luxury-sedan division as the Bently was the sports/racing division. The two than parted ways in the 90s, in fact, there was a huge lawsuit over this at one point. I believe the court awarded the name plate RR to BMW and VW got the Bently name and the factory.

    We left 7:50 AM, didn't see the owner. Wanted to get on the road due to weather.

    As JH35 pointed out BMW owns Rolls Royce and VW owns Bentley, but it wasn't always so. Until recently, Bentley was part of Rolls Royce, and their cars were re-badged Rollers
