    For Russ, I ran across this when I was filing some stuff. A friend 20 years ago bought this BT-15, I my memory is working, and sent the photo to me. The step between the BT-13 and the AT-6. I thought of you when I found it.

    The Yale had a Wright R-975 (or was it a Wrong R-975). Unsightly exhaust hose coming out of the right side of the cowling and running down the side of the fuselage. Typical awkward Curtiss-Wrong installation. I guess the R-975 is a good engine tho.

    BT-14 had a 985. You can tell by the exhaust and cowl diameter. As long as I can remember there have been no actual BT-14s extant, rather than a few re-engined Yales. As you would imagine, the interiors are a bit different in addition to the engine. I always had wished for a BT-14 over a Valiant as the NA had the great 985 and real fuel tanks over the -13's wet center. If you want to see BT-14s in their glory, I think the movie is "I Wanted Wings" with those fab mass takeoffs at Randolph. Try that now.

    If you look closely at the front of the engine you can see the exhaust collector ring of the Wright. They also put R985's on the BT-14.

    You are correct - I missed that it is in actuality a Yale painted up as a BT-14;BT-14s only had 985s.

    I defer to you, Russ. I'm not an expert on that genre of aircraft. It is an interesting lineage that terminated in the AT-6 ,though.

    I think there used to be one of these sitting in the grass beside the hangar down at Wally Olsens field at Evergreen years ago. Wonder what became of it after his passing?
