I did a search, but it came back with undecipherable results (i.e. way off the intended subject) -

Does anybody have any older Continental Euro diecasts still around? I mean Matchbox (Lesney), Corgi, Dinky Toy?

I still have a few around from the rug rat days, and they do include some interesting sports cars in there among the tanks, cememt mixers, and milk wagons.

For example - Dinky Toys 1/43 Maserati A6G full fendered roadster, Mercedes 190SL fixed head coupe.

Matchbox - mostly supposedly about 1/87, but the actual sizes vary all over the map -

Aston Martin DB4, Jaguar XK120 fixed head coupes, MG TD, Maserati F1 Racer, D Jaguar, Blower 4.5 Bentley -

They are not, of course, what we would call "scale" models today, but they do kind of have a good honest kind of "antique toy" quality about them.

Just thought I would mention it in case somebody else had some of these lurking around the attic, especially if there were any Ferraris.

I have a huge collection of Lesney MB, it has a few neat Ferrari's, both road and track models, plus a bunch of other cool cars as well, including Lambos, Lotus, GT0s, Maseratis, Astons, etc.

There are thousands of collectors of old European diescast, but only a small percentage are involved with real cars. It's to the point that some of the Matchbox models, in min boxed condition are worth over $500. Some Dinky toys are worth several thousand dollars.

I would say if you like the one I posted a pic of, look for them on ebay. Research them though because people like to sell fake boxes and restorations and sell them as "new in box or with original box".

Lesney/Matchbox can be very very expensive, but you can also find them at a reasonable price once in a while.
If I remember right, I think Lesney made the first licensed Ferrari F1 (the one in my pic) and little things like that is what makes collectors go nutty over them.

I can remember receiving a whole box of little cars like this from my uncle's childhood when I was a kid. Little that I knew back then I used to smash them and blow them up with firecrackers. But then again if I had any idea back then I would have not played with all my original Star Wars figurines either ;)
