    Jerry,

You can set Item Location to "Worldwide" or you can search different countries' eBay sites independently.

Thanks Barry. I'll take a look to see what mine is set at as a default. I called eBay customer service and she said she thought the default was world wide. Also, I haven't been getting any notifications for any of my older searches. None. But the recent search I placed notifies me multiple times each week. She said their tech dept. would look into it for me. Something's obviously wrong.

I still have the original radio, but it doesn’t work. The previous owner
Said it worked when he sold it to me. I have checked the main fuse and it’s good.
    Any other ideas?

I've been looking for one for a few months and seeing ridiculous prices!

I just got really lucky and picked up a Sony unit from Bulgaria for £250 ($300ish). I bought it the same day as it popped up. It's not working but I thought I'd take a punt for that price, I'm sure it's repairable.

It will never get switched on anyway, it will simply fill the hole and look the part.

All I did - was set an ebay notifciation, be patient and one popped up and I just bought it quick!

    Good luck

    Rich

Bob, I will. Right now I'm looking to see how the Sony releases from its holder. There are 2 tabs on top of the radio that have to be depressed so it can slide out of the holder. In the dash, they can't be accessed without first removing the bezel. But once the bezel is snapped in place to the sides of the radio, there is no good way to get at the tabs (they need to be pushed outward to release).

In the absence of any manual or instructions, here's what I think will work (but haven't tried it yet out of the dash where I can still get at everything. First remove the removable face from the radio. I believe this should give access to the tabs so they can be pried outward enabling you to remove the bezel. This then gives access to the tabs on top. Using either a pair of Sony manufactured probes or 2 flat sheet metal "L" shaped probes you make for yourself, slide the L probes into the gap between the radio and the sheet metal holder at the top, hook them around the back of both tabs and pull forward enough to slide over the tabs thus depressing them between the radio top and the holder. The radio should then be able to be pull out.

That's the way I see it. If I'm wrong and you have a better and simpler way, please let me know. By the way Bob, if you have an owner's manual, could you make me a copy? That's a lot of pages so I'd be glad to pay you for it. Jerry

Thanks Dave. Appreciate it. I think you have my email address.

By the way, I ran both videos about removing the radio from its cage. If you have the Sony removal tools (unfortunately I don't....I believe you need 2....not just 1), then you can remove the radio and bezel together without first removing the bezel. If not, you must remove the bezel to get access for the custom tool I previously described to slide between the top of the radio and its cage.

The Sony tool would obviously make it easier. Does anyone know where I can get a pair of these? Does Sony still offer them? If not, are they simple enough that copies can be made? Would someone that has one be willing to do this? I'd be happy to pay for a pair. Jerry

Jerry, removing the bezel is simple. But, I did it 5 years ago. All I remember is that it took me 2 seconds. IIRC, I think I just pinched the sides. I believe only one tool comes with the stereo. You can do one side at a time and I believe. A thin piece of metal is all that is needed.

Looking at the videos again, it appears you can "rack" the radio slightly in the cage after depressing and releasing one of the tabs on one side. Then stick the same tool into the slot on the other side and release the second tab allowing the radio to then slide out. So it sounds like a single tool will work.

The bezel tabs need to be moved outward to release. I haven't tried pinching the sides but if the tabs can be moved outward enough doing this, it would work. However, the tabs on my bezel are very stiff (its brand new and never been used.....this is the one you refinished since it was sticky out of the box from Ferrari). So I don't know if pinching them will work in my case. Of course I'll certainly try it. Appreciate for the suggestion.

The video doesn't show the Sony tool very clearly. Is it just a flat piece of sheet metal? Pushing it in has to lower the tabs against their spring so it would have to be reasonably stiff. What gauge is it? Maybe I can make one myself if I know its dimensions. Can anyone sketch one up with dimensions and post it here?

Jerry, the removal keys are Sony Part PC5-77...

Do a search on eBay for them. They ship from Canada and the UK. But a thin piece of sheet metal the thickness of a business card that will fit into those slots will work just as well.

Here is the the manual for the SONY XR-F21RDS, the updated version that shows song and artist information...

Jerry - here is the tool. I've got to tell you, I think you are over thinking this. If your bezel is not installed, you don't need to worry about removing it.

Dave, The radio is not even in the car yet. Since I had no manual or key and only my eyes and intuition to determine how to get it back out once installed, I thought I would research it first. Clearly the Sony is not like ordinary DIN radios that use standard keys in standard locations and have no bezels. Those slots and keys for the Sony are totally unique to this radio. So, research done and now I know. As always Dave, thanks for the help and advice.

My pleasure. What I can tell you is the radio cage is the most stupid design on the planet. You need to bend the tabs over inside the trim to install and if you want to remove, you need to unbend them. The cage might as well also be made from tin foil.
