My first album was Revolver. The first song I heard was "I wanna hold your hand" The first song I liked as a favorite was "Eight days a Week" My second album was "Sgt. Peppers and third was the "White Album", both unsurpassed in my book. The musician and music I related to the best was George Harrison, RIP To me "Dark Horse" embodies what I thought George was at the time (and maybe there after) "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was his bench mark. Looks like I need to refresh my collection.
WARNING: Tangent. Dale, or anybody: Do I remember correctly, this: When I went to Galveston for the month of October in 1983 I remember there was a Houston radio station that played nothing but Beatles music 24/7. By the next summer it was no longer there. Did I imagine that??
We used to pick an Beatles-only station here in Dallas in late '83-early '84; I don't remember its location.
Wasn't it actually located in Mexico? Seems that I remember seeing something about it on Inside Edition or some other tabloid news show.
Yeah, I dimly remember that. We actually used to have some diversity in radio in the Big H, unlike today. Arlie, you're thinking of the X. Listen to ZZ Top's song, "I heard it on the X" for more. Dale
Fav songs: Please Mr Postman I'll Get you I will In my life And your bird can sing Helter Skelter Leave my kitten alone Soldier of Love(BBC tapes)
I think that all of abbey road needs to be included...what a tremendous "story", an album way ahead of it time. i have actually listened to the whole album watching the sun set at sunset cliffs ...when the album is over and the sun has set, it really makes you feel you have had a special moment. music is so powerful!! pcb
While I would not consider myself a Beatles authority by any means, I have followed them since the Life magazine issue came out in Feb 1964 until their break up. I saw them perform at the Chicago Amphitheater in 1964 and could barely hear the music over the screaming girls. I love listening to the early music for it's cleanliness and simplicity however if I could only listen to one of their albums for the rest of my life it would be Abbey Road.
would be Let It Be for me, 'course if you're not a Phil Spector "Wall of Sound" fan, you're not going to like it. Found an alternate non-Wall of Sound recorded Let It Be version years back. Interesting differences.
They came to Dallas in '65 but I didn't go. We saw McCartney when he came in spring 1990 and sold out Texas Stadium...great show. Let It Be gets my vote, then Harrison's All Things Must Pass after the breakup.
The Let It Be Naked album that came out a while back is definitely different than the original.. Perhaps that is the recording you heard. I like the Phil Spector version quite a bit but something about Abbey Road does it for me.
Good collection there NNO. I just heard the other day that the beatles songs will be making their way to itunes. When they do i will be able to download some classics. Just this morning i downloaded a few of the great ones by the Jackson 5. He was good back then.
Shame on me, I got rid of my Beatles CD collection when I was in college. I just checked itunes, only cheap cover band rip-offs to be found but you would think the catalog would be on there by now.
Trivia answer: The easy answer is Bob Dylan on Sgt Pepper......but of course there is the Beatles vs. 4 Seasons album(VJ Records) from 1964 with both groups on the cover. But if you actually meant "artist" instead of musician, there were 2 "artists" on the Sgt Pepper cover....but thats too obscure for most people.
Never Can Say Goodbye, I'll Be There, I Want You Back, and ABC. Great stuff that puts you in a good mood,
Three days have gone by and no answer? I thought that you guys knew The Beatles. Unless I'm mistaken, the answer is Billy Preston, the keyboard player. His name appeared on the cover of one of their albums, and I think that he is the only NON-Beatle person mentioned by name on the cover of a Beatles album.
