So, yes, it's winter here in South Africa. And to tell you the truth, the weather was horrible for most of the last 2 months here in Cape Town. The memories of driving along all the beautiful mountain roads were getting quite faint, the car lingering in the garage, save the little drives over Black Hill from Simon's Town (where we live) to Longbeach, a 10km or so drive one way, just to get things warmed up, and only if the roads were dry. That doesn't cut it.

This morning we woke up to a day of beautiful blue skies and no wind. Oh man, let me tell you, it looked like summer outside! The question of what to do today was easily answered: let's go for a drive. Yeah baby! Westcoast is a no-no, as all Capetonians will be going there, and we have no desire to get caught in a day of bumper to bumper traffic. There was still a little bit of snow visible on the mountains in the distance, accross False Bay. The mountains, it's been too long!

Checked oil and coolant, jackets in the back, caps on (roof, as always, behind the seats instead of above us) and off we went. Still a fair amount of traffic getting out of the peninsula, but soon after the roads were dry, sunny and empty-ish. Grins grew bigger, the speedo climbed and then, where you reach the split between going over Du Toit's Kloof pass or through the tunnel, I realised that I didn't have any cash on me, so the choice was made for us, over the pass te is. No traffic, winding roads and the mountains towering above you.

    Life is sweet.....

Tomorrow is car cleaning day....sorry to expose this dirty 308!

Looks like a great drive, especially in the winter. Hard to think of July as being a winter month, but then I'm up here in the northern hemisphere. Got to love the red/black color combo. Enjoy the ride.

    Cliff,

My wife wears them completely voluntary; especially with the black interior of my car it works very well! You also need to know that it is my wife who is driving the car, as I don't hold a driver's license because of an eye condition. I must be the only Ferrari-owner without a license!
She does a great job of it though, as many people in the club can attest to and have found out to theri detriment:)

Cleaned the car yesterday, she needs a nice wax, but today the weather doesn't permit. Gearing up for a full service too, hopefuly next week.
