when you de-press the clutch that allows the car to start? Sometimes, when the car is hot, if I let it sit for a short time and try to re-start it it doesnt crank or anything: turning the key does nothing but turn on the electricals. One time it did it and I pressed the clutch down really far and it turned right over?

The car starts fine when cold or if its been sitting for an hour +.

    Where should I look first?

Do a search on "TR starter solenoid" -- many reports of that exact symptom (although we can't agree on the best solution ;)).

(No switch on the clutch pedal -- but actuating the clutch could vibrate things enough to help an intermittent.)
