This may have been covered before but I can't find it through a search. Fred Astair has a Ferrari that he commits suicide in and I was wondering about the model. The movie was black and white so the car looked like it might be yellow or white, also it was an inside plug engine with side draft carbs. I couldn't tell if it was a 4 or six cylinder.

    It's apparently 0492M, a 750 Monza.

    Correct spelling is "Astaire".

As I recall, despite many spectacular crashes of other cars, Fred makes it thru and wins the race much to the relief of Peck and Gardner. just one man's opinion tongascrew PS This film is one of the great classic films with a neucular message which shouldn't be missed.

Yes, when the end is near, Astaire commits suicide by running the Monza in a closed garage, after screwing a horrible plaque commemorating his victory onto the nose of the car. No one left to claim the "barn find".

I was down at Phillip island yesterday ,following up another lead on this lost car.
All came to zero,as the barn had long gone.
I'm going down next weekend again, with a metal detector,as rumour has the car is buried in the sands of the back beach.

    Haw haw haw!

I haven't seen the movie in a while, but as I recall the garage was in town. Seems like Ava Gardner walked over to it while she was moping about Gregory Peck planning to leave on the submarine instead of dying in her ample grasp.

Race was run prior to the notion of a full course yellow.

much of that race was filmed at Phillip island, the writer Neville Shutes,Jaguar XK140 can be seen in the film.
John Sawyer whom for many years ran Bob Janes race team ( a MG K3 owner) was also in the film.
Sawyer was involved with Janes team when they had the Maserati 300s and the E-type lightweight.

All the talk down here at Christmas was that the Monza went to China in December 1967 on the same heavy cargo submarine that had Harold Holt on board.
