    Over the last 4 or 5 years, I’ve been tracking a modified 308QV. I loved driving the car, but it had one major drawback – lack of HP. At LimeRock and NJMP, it wasn’t too bad, but at Pocono and Watkins Glen, the big HP cars just ran over me. To resolve this, I looked seriously into boosting the car. That introduced the first dilemma, turbo or supercharger. I talked to several knowledgeable / experienced people and the more research I did, the more I waivered between the two. I also talked to several drivers who raced 308s in the past and everyone said “don’t do it, you’ll just break the car”. Another dilemma. So, to resolve the HP issue, I went our and purchased a C5 Z06 Corvette. After changing brakes, seats, adding harness / bar, wheels / slicks, and misc stuff to the tune of over $4K, I took it to Watkins Glen for 3 days tracking the car. To say the least, it was a pleasure to receive rather than give point bys (I run in the FCA blue group, with an assortment of Challenge cars, Z06s, several race prepped Porches, etc.). Simply stated, the Z06 is fast and easy to drive. However, it’s not the same as driving the 308. The Z06 is fun, but I find the 308 exciting. So now I’m faced with another dilemma, which car to keep. With brings up the ultimate dilemma, how to tell Marianne I’m going to keep both.

    Note: The above is for informational purposes only - for those who think the next car will be the last one.

    Been there, done that, ran the same tracks. Keep the Vette. Seriously, look at TCO and modding the Fcar will be HUGE $$$ because you got engine work, need better clutch, etc. and you are still stuck with an OLD car with parts that are STUPID $$$ versus a vette where if you blow up the engine you just get a cheap pull or inexpensive crate.

    If i was to do the 308 thing again.... i wouldn't. Like you, it was fun and all yet too much money for so little REAL performance against a modern Vette.

    PS: once you are done with tintops get a $20k F2000 with Pinto engine and it'll make the Vette seem slow (except WGI long back straight) and parts are really cheap for the F2k too and it is easy to fix.

    WGI = 1:58
    LRP = 0.50 seconds
