Did you watch them out on the snow track? Apparently this is a regular event. The old race car with the skinny tires and light weight looks to be the fastest.
This has taken place for a few years now in St Moritz the most glamorous ski resort in Switzerland, it is not on snow but on the actual frozen lake. Not actual races, just demo runs for fun followed by grand dinners in the palaces there. Sweden and Finland used to have proper races on frozen lakes in the fifties and several Ferraris took part, actual sports prototypes. Not sure if any Maseratis did.
Well there's snow on the track. Looks quite nuts to me though I suppose with no salt it's just water to clean up afterwards. I saw a few cars with roll bars but ZERO helmets. Not it didn't look like racing but even so ... how long before someone is badly hurt or worse? That video isn't the entire event. I guess there's more out there? The perfect event for very wealthy pretenders ...
Just gentle demo laps, nothing drastic. It is NOT a competitive event at all just some fun with some absolute top cars, I mean 250GTO 4219GT for example. None of them is taking any chances. If you are worried about the ice just know that in several places in Scandinavia and Canada, Alaska Russia there are temporary highways on ice seasonally on which even big trucks drive, this in St Moritz is 60cm ice but in some of the places I mentioned it is well over a meter.
We have the northern middle west with the lakes that freeze over for ice fishing so it's not unique to Europe. See Grumpy Old Men or Grumpier Old Men, funny as hell. I a saw photos of someone who lost control and ran into the center. I can easily imagine someone not all that experienced flipping one of those cars with no protection and snapping their neck. Lord that Rolls and the Countach looked quite ponderous out there.
Thank you but but this is the Maserati section, let's keep it that way. There were enough of them there we don't need this here plus there are several threads on this event elsewhere on Fchat.
No need to apologize as you weren't the OP, a gentleman who is a pretty big long time Maserati collector. It is elsewhere on this website though.
Nobody can be hurt or anything like that in St. Moritz as there are no ice bankings in that a car can bounce on both sides of the "circuit" .
Right ... it's impossible for a car to get sideways, out of control and flip or hit another car. Gotcha.
