We were making good time at a bit over the limit and about 20 minutes in, noticed something red coming up in the mirrors. A red f12 who started several cars after us had caught us on the route. That was bad news for them which would put them with an early arrival... the goal was to hit the arrival on time perfectly. A little further into the next town we were faced with a split option on the road, I moved over to follow our map directions. The red f12 stayed in the lane to go a different direction and at the last minute came over to follow us... The organizers reminded people to make their own verifications of the routes and not make a turn just to follow someone in front because they might be going the wrong way... But I think the f12 owner probably saw my AZ plate at one point on the trip and decided that we would not be heading the wrong way in our scenic backcountry. They chose wisely. Later a 488 also caught us and passed by. Not sure if maybe they thought the goal time was 1 hr 10 min... instead of 110 min. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
We made such good time - I think the police hadn’t seen a train of cars coming by yet when we passed so the later rally drivers prob had a better chance of running into the law... We had time to stop in for a quick restroom pit and grab a couple drinks. Then checked our estimated arrival time and kept looking for answers to the questions and trying to hit the finish line correctly... Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
A group of 5 more cars passed us while we were at the gas station and I looked at my watch and again said - man those guys would be early... We crossed the line at 110 minutes and 1 second. So couldn’t really be a much better time - or had a better experience in our first go at this rally experience. I’m sure we missed some questions so we’ll see how we paired up against the other driver teams. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
We later heard that a 458 speciale had been pulled over during the rally and I was thinking that may have complicated their time... The day before police had let two cars go through clocking them at 98 and 99 but when a third came through at 101mph, the blue and red lights went on for that particular driver... Who’d of thought..... Robb
So after the rally we hung out talking about the cars. The final rally teams arrived and cars started to get back on the road. So it was funny and we all looked around and the remaining cars that had t left yet we’re all blue... So we opted for a group photo. The group was well diversified but all blue. Great stuff.
