We're not only talking about the fact that some threads are more serious then others and that in some threads the off topic chit chat should be kept to an absolute minimum... Again, I think we ALL and I say EVERONE agree on this... There is indeed a time, thread and place for everything... That's obvious...

BUT, it's really not that hard to understand Guy's view on te deleted posts either... he's completely right that it seems very unfair that some posts are not allowed while others that are in a way even more off topic then the ones that are deleted now are still in the thread... It's normal that we start thinking there are different rules for different people then isn't it?
Guy certainly isn't a bad guy, we all agree on this too... but he IS right that he speaks up! The line of tolerance should be the same for everyone...

Maybe there should be a zero tolerance for ALL off topic posts in a serious thread, certainly when it's a sticky. However, the way it looks now it still isn't good and certainly not cleaned up, if that was the intention. There are still posts in there that have nothing to do with the meeting and could confuse or bore new users. If you draw a line, you should draw it in a whole line and not only a part.

Should we organize an "Fchat on/off topic discussion meeting"?
We could drink a beer together, discuss, chitchat and have fun.
Discussing is much easier while looking in someones eyes, instead of writing here in foreign language. Lot of times I have problems to find the right "tone".

I am also one of the hijakers of the "Deil" tread. I think it was in all fun.
But when a treadstarter has a problem with it, of couse the moderator has to take action. Nothing wrong with the action, but as Wolfgang said, maybe it was better to delete all off topic posts.
Think it would be best to delete #125 and further.
Henkies post about the postnumbers was meant to show everybody is welcome, doesn't matter if you are an old fart or a newbie.

Worst of this all IMO is the feeling Guy has after all this.
Guy is very well respected Fchatter on the board.
I am really have problems with the way he is feeling now.
This could never be the intention of this wonderfull forum.
Don't know how to express but I really feel the need to appologize against Guy in name of FerrariChat. I convinsed there is no one in here to blame.I have been here for almost 3 years on FerrariChat and I have never seen this happen before EU section.

Maybe Ton was affraid it would turn out as a badly hijack!!
I can understand that, but then it could be simply solved with a note in the thread itself: "Guys keep it a bit on topic!!!"
I'm sure that's easier then start to delete randomly some posts, and everybody would get the message!! Not only the ones involved who see their posts dissapear!!

As said before... I agree. I also thought about why my post was more offtopic than a LOT of other posts in that thread... so I can relate to Guys feelings too.
All I say is that we cannot keep "yelling" at eachother for this.
As I see it, Ton tries to say he's sorry if some of us felt offended as it was not intended...
And I also agree... that the rest of the offtopic chit chat in there should be deleted too...
    hmm not an easy discussion...

    Ton,

once again and for the last time.....Wolfie is getting tired to reply and reply:

    ALL OR NOTHING!
    (there is no somewhat/almost pregnancy)

Otherwise you scare the fchatters and nobody knows if its correct to reply in a funny way or better to stay away!
And you would look to the chatters like "The Judge"
There are rules! You have already set the rules!
    And everbody accepts them!
Easy going: close your eyes and let it roll or be rigorously!

I'm also convinced that it is indeed a very difficult job... We can all agree on that part too! It must be hard to find a balance in this subject...

This is exactly what I mean... the written language is sometimes difficult when trying to express what you're thinking... and even more difficult in a foreign language.
That's why I meant that it would end up with somebody saying something they really don't mean.... or that just was missunderstood.:)

I don't mean to attack you now Ton, i know very well you've got a difficult job here!!!
And overall, you're doing a good job, but after all, most of the time we're not that difficult, are we?? :) ;)
I just wish you could see my point! :(

I do see your point, just be clear where to draw the line!!! Is it allowed for NOBODY to go off topic? Should it be kept out of sticky threads COMPLETELY? what about other threads? Only the bonkers?,......
Right now, (looking at the Deilmeeting thread for example), i have no idea what is allowed and what is not! :(

You are joking right? I had posts deleted, Roel had post deleted and some others as well. What´s the big deal?

Surely your ego is not so fragile that you feel less about yourself when a stupid post gets deleted because it´s poluting a thread???

    Tina,

    well said.
Here is th deal - and I´m sure it helps to cool down for everybody.

Everybody is now HERE allowed to post 1 sentenc in his native language.
    I will start in german:

"Die ganze Scheiße kotzt mich an und ist es eigentlich gar nicht wert, dass mann deswegen seine Freunde und die vielen Freundschaften die mann über Jahre aufgebaut hat aufs Spiel setzt"

Sorry, but this post isn't going to improve things... :( Aren't we among friends here? Is it really that hard to understand Guy's view on this for you too? He is a great guy and a very good friend.

What you bring up has nothing to do with it! I had posts deleted too... so what!? It's a fact that there are still off topic posts in that thread! It certainly isn't cleaned up IMO! THAT'S what's this about? Where's the line? What is tolerated? What isn't?

The posts thar are deleted were IMO LESS off topic then the ones that are still in the thread... but I guess everyone sees this different?

No reason to start attacking anyone! We're free to discuss this aren't we?

    No offense intended!

I´m not attacking anyone (same like Ton wasn´t attacking anyone when he deleted these posts upon request of the topicstarter), I am asking a question. Well, actually three questions.

That was the exact reason for me to start this thread....... why are only some "off topic" posts deleted and not others??? The meeting thread contained I don't know how many posts in Dutch or Flemisch language by several users, and I don't know how many posts by "staff" containing just a smiley or a comment saying something like "uh huh".....is that on topic???
I felt insulted too because my post with an answer to a question about Wolfgang's daughter, was deleted, and that was not even made for fun!
That is where I started to feel insulted......when I felt that for some reason I was put in another lower ranking class!
Yes I know I don't have a Ferrari, but I also do know that I am a hell lot more of an enthusiast than many users in here, and I do like to share my passion and enthusiasm and that combined with the nice atmosphere in here was what made me join this forum/community in the first place!

I am pretty sure that it was not anybody's intention to make others feel "less worthy" of contributing to threads, but I still think that someone aught to have stepped forward and explained ....or perhaps at least sent a pm to the parties involved who had their posts removed, and the reason for it!
We all had to find out by ourselves!!!
I see absolutely no reason for Ton to react like he did yesterday in saying that "we" only thought about ourselves and that we had no respect for other users......I'm still insulted by that!

Let's try to keep this European community a nice place to be, in good company with good friends

I agree Guy! That could have been one of the options. But that would in my opinion not have improved the readability of the thread. On the other hand I have not improved our relationsships now too. This also was clearly not my goal.
I apologize if I offended you in a way. My moderation was not personal to any of you. Just simple cleaning of the mess you had left behind. In the end somebody has to the dirty job.

I agree with Roel. Let's have a meeting and hijack a bar somewhere. Guy you are a great guy. There is nothing wrong with you and you don't have less rights than anyone else. The same counts for Roel, Alex, Carsten and all the others around here.

I never intended to offend anyone of you. I am just a boy with a brush and I thought that my job was cleaning! :)

    Carsten,

I really wanted to hijack this thread yesterday in a very bad way. Just to show some people how irritating it can be to the people who put up a thread for a specific reason. But in the end I was afraid that this action would also be considered as a personal attack by some of the crowd.

This is NOT personal. I am just cleaning up!
