    Guys,

What do you think? Should we keep this forum Ferrari related? Or should we also allow non-Ferrari related subjects to be entered in new threads?

I am a bit scared that this forum will turn into an MSN forum if we accept non- related threads.

    Tell me your opinion!

We have to allow non F related chatter. Many of us know each other very well, as much as I have tried to avoid you Ton, so the ususal friends chat is natural.

What I want to avoid is threads on a specific topic being drowned in that chatter. Thats why we need OT threads. If they only have 2 or 3 posts, so what, they will soon disappear down the line in a day or two.

    Hi guys,
I just voted: non Ferrari related should be OK, but held to a minimum. This is a Ferrari forum site, but as Simon says : we've all become a group of friends that sometimes would love to share something non-Ferrari related (such as the birth of baby Matthias). Those treads will eventually move down , but I can also relate to the worries Ton has: the Europe section does need to become a chatroom such as MSN, that's the reason we have the Bonkers tread.

I agree with Simon, we have to allow non-F-related chat also, since we are (most of us) a bunch of mad guys who shares a lot more than the passion for Ferarri! That's what we have threads like the Bonkers thread for!!!
At the same time there could be a wish for more F-related stuff than is the case today :)

    I totally agree with you!
non F-related chats is okay for me too .... as you and others said: A lot of us knows eachother in private too and wan't to share things.

But as Simon writes... it's not great that all threads are being hijacked by smalltalk :)
That's why Europesection have their Bonkers Thread :)

Threads with off-topic subjects should be tolerated, but not stimulated IMO.
After all, this is indeed a Ferrari forum, and I think most of us are here to learn about and share the passion about Ferrari.

But, like been said here before, many of the users here have become friends, and it's obvious that non-Ferrari related things will be discussed here sometimes too.
Starting new threads about some off-topic subjects could help make Ferrari related topics more valuable and prevents other intresting facts to drown in various threads...
In other words, it may be better for someone to start a new thread about a certain off topic subject, that will attract the people intrested in that same thing (fe old Lancia's, Alfa's, wine, births, weddings,...). People not intrested in the subject can easily decide not to read it... This way you can reach people who might have the same intrest without disturbing threads that are started for other reasons.
However, smaller faits-divers not concerning Ferrari should go into Bonkers or off-topic pics.

As long as the majority of the threads stays Ferrari-related, I don't see a problem.

I agree like most of you to have non Ferrari related treads too.
Most of us made friends here and share more passions then only Ferrari.

The hijacking has to go down to a minimum (yes, me too) and replies have to be tread related.

MSN talk is only allowed in the bonkerstread. People who don't like MSN don't go to the bonkerstread. When you want to reply personally or non tread related, please use the PM option. PM can also be send to more people in once.

This thread is way off topic already :)

My $0.02 - needs the non-f stuff, it's the essence of f-chat which has evolved beyond just a techie info. site and would events like Andermatt really happen if we did not talk poo sometimes?? doubt it.

That said, it does need to be kept in check - what went on and now seems to have been resolved in the UK section recently was a joke.

well, I've not been here long, but I think we should clearly consider that "visitors" or new members could be just puzzled by reading long threads with only private jokes or debates about the respective colours of ties in Germany and Switzerland.
On the other hand, this place is also for friends...
Why not accept off-topic, with the agreement that they should be explicitely named that way ?
    Damned, forgot to vote.

The non-Ferrari part is also important... to get to know each other, make friends, etc etc. Life is not all about Ferrari, and that can also be expressed on a Ferrari forum, because this is just our mutural interest. What would be the solution? Ban all people who want to say anything not Ferrari related? Let them start their own forum for every topic they want to talk about?

At this moment this is the only forum I go to (and not as much lately as I did before...) just to read stuff about Ferrari, or just to see/read/chat with guys and girls all over Europe, about all kinds of stuff... AND about Ferrari ofcourse.

I wouldn't like it at all if this would change... The non-Ferrari related stuff is already sort of limited to the Bonkersthread...

I hope that moderating this forum can be limited to as little as posible. Let us just all enjoy the forum.

    Those were just my 0,02ct :) ...

Moderating as little as possible will create an absolute mess. That is not what this thread is about. The question is whether we should accept off topic items. Sofar the majority thinks that we should do this. In that case we act the democratic way and accept it. But how far do we go? I would not like to see this forum change into some kind of birthday announcement or holiday picture forum.

    Ton,
Why do we have a seperate EU section? In the GF we have technicaltreads, classictreads and so on....... All info you need or questions you find there.

I think the EU section is specially a mix of all that.
Ferrari related but it also has a socialfunction so for me are birthday announcements and holiday pictures very welcome. :)

Starting the seperate treads like yesterday and today is a good thing.
There has to be the disipline not to hijack the treads because that's getting annoying after a while.
As said before, funny (MSN) talk in the bonkerstread, other (on/off) topics in seperate started treads.
