It's coming up soon. 29 April - 1 May. The Southeast Region of the FCA is having it's annual track weekend and social event on the south course at VIR. Headquarters Hotel is the Sleep Inn in Danville, VA, which is close to the track. They're holding a limited number of rooms and suites for us until 20 April. On Friday evening, there will be an informal cocktail party and registration at the Sleep Inn's pool and Saturday's awards banquet will be at Sir Richard's Restaurant next to the hotel. A "top only" concours will be held at the track during lunch on Saturday. We're also throwing in a fun rally and short autocross for your weekend of fun. Sunday is another drive-til-you-drop day at VIR, leaving just enough energy to get you back home safely.

We draw cars from all over the southeast, from Texas to Pennsylvania, and will have some VERY interesting cars there this year. Any FCA member from anywhere is welcome to participate.

For full event information and registration forms, see www.fca-nc.com.

I'll be there, any suggestion about Track lodge or Sleep Inn other than may not be any rooms at the track?

    David -

I'm booked at the VIR lodge. Sleep Inn only has smoking rooms left. For me, that's a no-no..... There's plenty of smoking throughout the weekend between tires, oil, brakes, etc.

Sleep Inn actually has non smoking rooms left. They have to be remimed LOT that you are with the Ferrari club. For some reason I had to keep telling the guy over and over I was with the FCA.

    Ciao'

    Hey,

My parents have book a room for them and then a room for my brother and me at the VIR lodge. I can't wait to come to this thing and drool over (but not on) all of the prancing horses. VIR lodge is quite nice - large bathrooms, comfortable beds, hardwood floors, BIG tv's.

Ahhh... I'm only 20... this is a dream come true. Many of my fraternity brothers are quite jealous. Looking forward to meeting and talking with all of you Ferrari folks.

Honestly, I think you ended up with a better room this way. The VIR Lodge is really nice, and you are right there at the track.

Nothing Like waking up to the wonderful sounds of revving engines and the sight of a bunch of cars just burst into view coming around Turn 5.

I'm ecstatic because this will actually be the first event that I'm registered to drive (Don't worry, I'll be in the BEGINNER group, but don't think I won't pass you if I get the chance :D )

Hey, anyone know if there will perchance be any F430s or Enzos at the Track day? I am really hoping there will be. It will most likely be the first time I will see both of them in person, and I want to make sure that I can take lots of pics. Gonna have to buy my mom a new memory card for her camera!

My check went out this week. By now, I'm either officially registered or the boys at Sport Auto took my check and got all the cars washed at Harpers :)

Anyone know how many people have registered and/or how many cars are expected to show up?

And will everyone be hangin around on the back paddock, or will there be cars in both paddocks?

I'm already itching to go to this thing...

Ferraris will be on the South Course and we're expecting 40+ cars, everything from 250s and 330s up to the latest supercars. Vintage sports cars will be running the North Course so there will be plenty to see all around the track. I'll be filling in more details here as I get them.

Anyone who lives near VIR .....Having never been there before, how is the "MAY FLY" situation there? Depending on the location, North or South some places have bugs that make things unbearable to be outside that time of year. Swarming nats make me a bit crazy....I know it is a bit picky but after getting lime disease from a tick in New Jersey these bugs sure zap the fun out of things for me. Any one have input...besides covering my body with Deep Woods Off!!

I've been there many times, at every time of the year, and I've never experienced a bug problem at all. The worst I've ever seen is an occasional wasp or two flying around. VIR is a good distance away from any major standing water, and there is a good amount of clear land before you get to any forest, so I wouldn't worry about the bugs.

Remember, only nine more days to take advantage of the early bird registration discount (and the early birds get the worms and all the other bugs at VIR).

I just bought my TR and live in NC. I would like to come up to VIR the end of the month. Can I bring my coach and trailer and stay at the track? Also I'm having trouble getting to the FCA website.

Check out www.fca-nc.com There is still some room at the VIR Lodge, but your best bet is to contact resnow (via FerrariChat) and he'll get you all hooked up.

If you have any trouble reaching him, drop me a quick email at:

[email protected] and I'll be happy to help.

    Just to whet everyone's appetite...

Yellow Enzo gettin' tech'd today at FCI ! If you haven't registered yet, DO IT NOW.

    So far we've got the following cars (many of each) registered: 288GTO, F40, Enzo, 308, 328, 348CH, 355, 360, 550,

......and of course one totally sexy, oil spewing, water leaking 348 ! (I hear you asking, "Hmmm... does Daniel mean his own 86426, or 'lil brother 'resnow's 86427 ???") Only ferrarioldman knows the answer.

I'll be there as an observer, sorry no Ferrari. I've been to VIR a few times and it is definately a drivers track. If you're trying to decide as to whether this is a good way to spend your weekend, you will love it. I am hoping that the weathermen in this area stay true to their profession and have this weekend totally backwards as they have been all year. This is probably one of my favorite weekends all year. The first time I was ever up there for the FCA event, I was actually at a BMWCCA / Bugatti / Classics race on the north course. I went up on a hill and there were Cobras flying by me on the north course and all of the sudden I hear that familiar Ferrari noise and it was a 355 challange. So we drove up there and FCI had brought out a 360 and a 456 (first time seeing either of these for me, so it was definately a few years ago). An older gentlemen was standing next to an FCI salesman while his wife had the 360 out on the track. The older gentleman is assuring the salesman that his wife won't drive the 360 very hard and as he is saying so, she comes around the turn onto the straight with the ass end hanging out like a pro. Both of their facial expressions were classic. Anyways, good times, I personally can't wait.
