My very funny and as such, very smart friend, ashsimmonds, who is from Australia, mentioned something that has long puzzled me.

Why do Americans format the date as:
    Month/Date/Year?

And, after a modicum of research, why can't Canada make up it's mind?

After 4 vodka tonics I gotta pass on this thread, what ever its about.

I looked at the link, read the post twice and ...what were we talking about?

BTW, I learned American sign language so I could silently "sign" my wife "DVT" meaning "double vodka tonic", across a crowded resort pool since she sits near the bar and I pick the shady spot farthest away.

Though deaf as a doornail (whatever that means) - the only sign language besides "bull****" and "you're lower than whale****" or a highly cannibalized "you're raining on my parade" I know is: "hello" and "thank you" - when executed with a little *oomph*- they mean something else altogether.

Same reason as why do Australians drive on the wrong side of the road?

What's weird to me is the usage of commas vs periods in other countries numbering systems.

at least you still know what number they're talking about, but ya gotta agree, mm/dd/yyyy is pretty dam stoopid.

imagine if time was done the same as date... here it's 5:32pm and a few seconds, or 17:32:11 as i know it. if i were doing it like the american number system, it would be 32:17:11, or 17:11:32 (depending how you look at it).

either way you can see that's pretty retarded. well, that's how the rest of the world sees the american date system, and the yank's greatest triumph is getting the rest of the world to use a computer and software that by default uses this retarded system. :p

Number of seconds since Jan 1, 1970 0000UTC.

(Would the "date" manual page be a mandate ("% man date")? ;))
