First time filling the gas on my 87 built, 88 TR. When I took the gas cap off, a fair amount of pressurized vapor exited the neck. I had been driving for a few miles before that. Is this normal, or am I getting back pressure that isn't normal from the fuel tank?

Car seemed to run just fine after the refill. Mostly just want to make sure I'm not missing something I should know about.

Its a sealed system and designed to relive the pressure over a pound or two but when empty, as large a tank as it is, 2 lbs is a lot of volume coming out.

When I had this symptom, the charcoal canister (fuel vapor recirculation) had clogged. A new canister solved the problem.

The K-Jet system like most other fuel injection systems built in the '80s regulates pressure by bleeding off excess fuel back into the tank. The circulating gas picks up heat from the pump, & engine compartment, thus eventually warming up the entire tank. Result is the pressure in the tank rises by a few pounds until releived as rifledriver mentioned.
