That's a shame. Lot's of power, slightly damp road surface and who knows where the manettino was set... Or maybe someone else caused this accident? Hope everyone is okay.

It think the people made it out just fine. The pictures show that the passenger compartment doesn't even seem to be affected.

Can't read the story but did it say the driver was...Clarky? :)

Seriously, very sad! Really, a shame to see the crumpled mess hugging the armco.

The key factor is to always remember that these cars can bite you.

I always say to "new owners" ENJOY it to its fullest, the 599 GTO a fantastic high performance motorcar...but also don't ever allow yourself to be lulled into complacency.

The car can (and apparently did) get away, and, electronics aside, 660+ hp and cold tires/slick roads require absolute, full time, attention. Jason Plato said it best: "she's a fighter!"

To this day I don't understand why anyone unless there on a track and racing would risk drive a car like this in the rain. You are asking for it. Hope the person is safe and the car can always be rebuilt.

It will not melt in the rain, there is nothing wrong with driving these cars in ANY kind of weather.
Just don't do stupid things, although sometimes it happens,no matter what you do........

They are fine in the rain if you know how to be responsible and if you know your own limits.Plus you cant always have 100% dry weather... I was caught a few times in the rain in the Enzo or the F40 and nothing happened. They were perfectly fine at highway speed (80ish mph).

The article says the driver was a diplomat and he drove his left tyres over the right shoulder of the road where they lost grip. Not quite sure how, in Germany, one comes to be driving like that, perhaps it is a misprint. He seems ok, he says he will drive his Maserati while the GTO is being repaired.

The driver stated he lost grip because of driving over some wet earth on the left shoulder while overtaking, the right side of the car then coming out while accelerating.

This very car was featured in an eight-page article in German magazine "Ferrari World", issue 78.

    Ciao,

    Lars T.
